Build Thread - 1966 Street Beast

I am about to start the build on a street beast kit and was wondering if people typically do build threads. I see 1 rebuild thread and I am a member of the classicbronco site and people do build threads there.

Also, how do you upload multiple photo's?

Thanks

There are loads of build threads and we love them, so please do and post lots of pictures. Most can be found under the specific manufacturer's forum. There aren't many Streetbeast builds, so that may be why you are not finding them.

You can post multiple pictures by hosting them on an external site such as photobucket.com and linking to them with the HTML img tags.

Your not alone starting a street beast build. Contact TOMMY SMITH on this forum he just began a build on one as well. I have one myself and know it will be an adventure. I am also in Texas if I can help PM me.

Is Tommy in Texas and do you know his user name?

The kit I have already has the front coil over installed by the PO and the 8.8 is set up kinda, in the rear. It still has the 4 lug in it which I will change out shortly.

I am also going to take my engine to the builder next week to get it redone. Right now I am going with a 351w with Y303 heads and a performer intake. I have read that there might be issues with fitment between the heads and intake, so I might be switching to a weiand intake.

Welcome, and yes, please start a build thread and keep it updated.

Since you are in the DFW area, keep an eye on this section for the TCC (Texas Cobra Club) meeting notices, and come to the meetings on the first Saturday of every month. There is at least one other Street Beast here in town.

Tom:

Like John said, keep up with the TCC threads for the DFW group. James has a beautiful British Green Streetbeast and regularly comes to the meetings / cruises on the first weekend of the month. Another Orange Streetbeast is in town now too and shows up occasionally.

Very occasionally

Tommy's user ID is Tommy Smith, I think he is in georgia??

The build begins

I have finally finished up some work on my 66 Ford Bronco and have moved it out of the garage and moved the cobra in.

I purchased my Street Beast Cobra from a local guy that had given up on building it. He had finished the front coil over and steering and had installed a 8.8 in the rear. That it.

I will be spending time over Christmas doing the following:

*Assessing and reworking what has already been done
*Installing North Racecar rear disc conversion to 5 lug
*Maybe get the engine and transmission mocked up

I do need help identify what steer I have so I can get the correct column
ordered.

That is all I hope to get done over the next 2 weeks.

Yes, that looks to be a fox body manual steering rack. The front disk calipers are GM units and it looks to be Mustang II front suspension otherwise. The rear looks to be fox body also but the upper spring mounts are very poorly done. I'd personally go for coil over shocks for the rear suspension.

Racer X,

Do you have a vendor you would recommend for the rear coil over? Would the 4 link be retained with a coil over?

I'd highly recommend Maximum Motorsports Maximum Motorsports, the Latemodel Mustang Performance Suspension Leader!

They also have panhard bars along with torque arms and other items. They use Bilstein and Koni shocks with coil overs and should be able to get you dialed in suspension wise on your chassis with the fox body rear suspension.
No relation, just a satisfied customer.

Damn. Just saw James Wagner slammed me, and I just bought him Christmas as dinner on Saturday. Yes, I also have a low, low mileage street beast cause my free time is spent primarily on two wheels, but sometimes just one. James is south of fort worth and I'm in Keller.

jms_wagner 12-19-2011 06:21 PM

Dinner was great Miko! Hope to see you first Saturday 2012.

Might have my side pipes back by then. Just need to wire by bike electric heated gear into the cobra......

Brake work

Ok,

I was able to swap out the axles and install the brakes. Having alittle trouble hooking up the flex lines. I will call the vendor in the am to discuss.

Had to replace the PS outer axles seal, it was leaking. Other than that, it went pretty good.

I hope to wrap it up in the am after I talk to the vendor.

I also confirmed that I have 373 gears. Further, both sides spin in the same direction. My bronco spins in opposite directions. So what do I have in the cobra?

Next up, I think I am going to take the 8.8 off completely and repaint it. Then reinstall with the proper bushing, etc.

Do you need an assembly manual for the Street Beast. I would be happy to loan mine.

TomsCobra 12-20-2011 04:23 PM

I have 1, not sure if it is complete. It is very thin and does not seem to cover everything. Sound right?

jms_wagner 12-20-2011 08:27 PM

Five sections 160 Pages. I did not follow in most cases. Installed 9in. four link in rear and lower A arms in fromt with QA1 coil over in all four corners.
