New Cobra Owner-N. Richland Hills,TX
4 Attachment(s)
Howdy ya'll....I am now the very proud owner of my own NAF Cobra replica. I have been looking since June and couldnt be happier. Having grown up driving hot rods (66 GTO, 67 Camaro, 70 Chevelle, 67 Corvette) the cobra was always one of those "unattainable" dream cars...up until my beautiful wife actually said yes and gave me a budget. While the budget was small (under $30k) i looked and looked and bid and bid and lost and lost....until now. I now have the following sitting in my garage:
1998 NAF Shelby Cobra Replica (Red w/White Stripes) 428 ci (515 hp dyno'd) with dual four barrel carbs 4-speed toploader transmission 4,700 miles Halibrand Knockoffs Powdercoated Side Pipes Disc Brakes Rack & Pinion Steering This just happen to be one of those "miracle" buys cause the car went through Ebay twice before i bought it...lowered price each time. Third time my wife said i just couldnt pass it up and "Bought It Now". As im sure many of you can attest...then fear ran through me as i had to figure out how to get the car up here....inspect it...have a professional inspect it (Btw...i HIGHLY recommend Jerry Alexander in the Houston area for any muscle car prepurchase inspection-especially Cobras)...get insurance setup...find a truck, trailer...will car fit on trailer...will ramp be too steep to get car on ramp (btw...it will fit on a 16' uhaul trailer)....it all worked out. I have many small things i want to do to my car to make it mine...mostly small interior things, but it is so great being able to walk in the garage...see it sitting there and know i own it free and clear. I look forward to meeting many of you in the future at various events and shows. Thanks for the opportunity to vent my excitement a little. Hopefully i have included pics below. Jay Redford |

Jay,
Plan to join us in San Marcos the last weekend in March for the Texas Cobra Club Meet. You can look at last year's agenda and keep up with this year's info. on this site. We should have our first planning meeting in a couple of weeks. Texas Cobra Meet |
Congratulations
Jay:
Your new ownership excitement is shared by all of us. We all remember the anticipation of having the beautiful beast in our own garage, opening the door to the garage just to confirm it's still there; the smell of the exhaust, leather interior, shine it again; the wow factor, watching everyone take pictures as you drive down the road. It never ends. Enjoy your new baby. :):):) |
Thanks again...definitely will look into the meet in March. Got her inspected yesterday....didnt even think about the problems of getting it in a lube shop bay due to the metal rails sticking up. Had to find a small auto repair shop that does inspections to get it done. Spent the day giving rides to family members, so it was a great day.:3DSMILE:

Jay, you are a die hard. I think I just saw you on Davis and Bear Creek. I was probably one of just many cars that have honked and waved today. Glad to have another west sider. There are a couple of us close by and active. Dad and I both have cobras and we are in Keller, Mike has a FFR and is NRH, Jerry also has a FFR and is in Grapevine. Welcome to the club!
|
 You did see me...and i remember you waving as you were turning ....had to go show the In-Laws the car...more points for me with the father-in-law.. :3DSMILE:
|
I second what Court said. We have a great group of DFW guys and it is always good to add another "westsider"

Get your Santa suit on and drive the it like you stole it!

Congrats Jay! Nice ride! I live in Hurst...looking forward to seeing you at some of the local events.:D
|
Nice looking car! Just one thing though, do yourself a favor and burn those BFGs off in a vacant parking lot. BFG TA's and Cobras don't mix.
|
All in good time....tires are one thing i wanna change....just has to get approved by the Cobra Investment Program Manager (ie...my beautiful wife).
|
Got her all registered and legal this week...btw...the getting it inspected first as a 1966 Shelby Cobra Replica (using insurance card that says 1966 Shelby Cobra Replica)....then registering it works for getting it titled as a 1966.....im a happy camper.. :3DSMILE:
|
Congrats on the new car. One of these days the west side will hit critical mass and start having it's own monthly get togethers.
|
How reverse Deja Vu...i just saw someone in their Cobra (silver) at Davis and Bear Creek....beautiful day for driving here!
