I have a friend coming along, since he will not have a car, does he still need to register?

KSW64 03-20-2012 02:17 PM

No just send me his name via email at kenswalker@att.net. We only charge a registration fee per each car. He can be your guest. If he is planning on attending the Saturday night banquet then you will need to purchase him a ticket online. No tickets will be sold after Monday the 26th or on site.

Ok Ken make sure you order good weather and with 115 cars we should be in for an awesome weekend!!!!

Seagull81 03-21-2012 06:04 PM

We will have to have everyone's help with trailer parking! We have not had this many cars before and the trailer will need to be very close together. I'm not sure we will be able to accommodate all of the the trailers unless Dee can talk the hotel into some overflow parking.
Thanks in advance.

gsharapa 03-21-2012 08:23 PM

With the revenue we are bringing into the hotel I would think they would open up some more parking for the group. Dee has a way to convince folks..

392cobra 03-21-2012 09:01 PM

Any chance the hotel will have another Midget Convention this year as a bonus ?

PurpleVenom 03-22-2012 03:33 PM

Which lot/lots will we have access to, all?

BTW - planning my trip and wondered if Oklahoma/Texas people could let me know how the following highways are:

Oklahoma
I will be taking I-44 from St. Louis all the way to Tulsa. At that point, google maps has me going Hwy 75 (4 lane toll road) to Hwy 69 South to Atoka, then continuing on Hwy 69/75 all the way to my overnight stop in Plano, TX. Those roads good/ok?

Texas
From Plano, I plan to continue on 75 south to I-35 - all ok (construction/closures and such?)

Thanks,
Tim

Seagull81 03-22-2012 06:34 PM

PV,
We get the corner lot by the frontage road and McCarty Lane + a little. With more cars to park for viewing we lose trailer space. Gary is right, Dee usually does his magic, but they have all new people at the hotel this year. Hope for the best. Looking forward to meeting you.

Watch out for the speed traps in Stingtown, OK. When will you arrive in Plano?

PurpleVenom 03-22-2012 07:55 PM

Wednesday night around 8pm in Plano. I called the hotel just to make sure they had my reservation and Beverly at the front desk helped me. She is really looking forward to the cars being there, said she really enjoys when the cars all pull out at the same time. Seems ya'lls reputation proceeds you :D

jshel1 03-22-2012 08:08 PM

Tim,

You can research road conditions/closures of the Texas portion of your route at TxDOT.

Check out the DFW travel plans developing on the Who is traveling on Wednesday thread. There will be several waves heading down.

Tim,

If you are going to be in Plano Wednesday night 4 of us are leaving Thursday around 7am from McKinney/Plano/Frisco going straight down the Dallas North Tollway to Dallas where we will pick up 35E. If you are taking 75 south you will end up in Dallas at 35E also so you could hook up with us. We should be hitting downtown around 7:30am depending on traffic.

Tim, a more direct route through OK is to get off I44 at Big Cabin and take US69 down to Atoka where it meets US 75. That's the way I went when I used to drive to Gateway. You will avoid Tulsa that way. All OK roads are bad so no risk there ;)

You can expect construction on I35 south of Dallas and north of Austin all the time. As Gary says, five of us (four trailers, one Cobra) will be leaving McKinney/Dallas about the same time you leave Plano. Our fuel stop is the Flying J Truck Stop in Waco at I35 and New Road. Pull through pumps for the rigs and a restaurant if you are hungry. If you start out full in Plano, that stop will be all you will need to get to San Marcos.

North of Austin, at Georgetown, look at the TX130 toll road loop which by-passes Austin altogether and puts you back on I35 just 20 mi north of San Marcos. Expensive, $14 last time I took it for a 4 axle vehicle. But no traffic.

You will miss no organized events. Someone from the Club will greet you as you pull into the hotel lot and direct you exactly where to park your rig. Others will arrive that morning or the day before so that they can do some self-guided scenic tours on Thursday.

We have a couple of folks that have paid, but not registered. If you know these guys please contact them and have them go on the website and register. We will be printing the badges pretty soon.

I live in Austin and drive the Dallas/Austin/San Antonio corridor a lot. If I were driving south from Dallas on the I-35, picking up the 130 toll road at Georgetown would be a no brainer. If you hit Austin at the wrong time, it can easily take you 45/50 mins to travel the 10 miles either side of the city on the 35. The 130 is like a horseshoe around the city from Georgetown to north of San Marcos. It is a bit further in distance but free flowing and not many 18 wheelers either.

It sounds like the event is going to be great, I wish I was joining you but my new Backdraft is still a couple of weeks away from being delivered!

I hope you all have a great time.

Andig
