Looking to buy Cobra Replica

I'm thinking about purchasing a LoneStar Classic LS427 Cobra replica which was assembled in 2007. It has a 302 fuel injected engine and was registered in Texas. The photos I have seen show the registration and safety inspection to be expired.

How difficult will it be to get the cars registration and safety inspection current in Texas again? It will still be registered in Texas, just a different county where it was last registered.

Based upon what I have read and experienced, registering a car that was previously registered in TX will be no big deal. Same with the inspection.

How is the car currently titled? What state?

Is it just an expired TX registration and inspection?

Both Texas registration and Texas inspection are expired because the car was not being driven. It was garage stored. I talked with the owner and the car is registered as 2007 but has a exemption to be inspected as a 1966 Ford. Getting both renewed should not be problem after talking with the owner.

Another step would be checking your states DMV site, using search terms such as replica, kit cars, custom made, etc

To the O.P.: Texas is supposed to be one of the easier states to get this done, so be thankful for that!

There's always somebody who feels the need to post a reply like "Use the search" instead of a helpful response. It didn't bother me. I did try a search, but didn't see anything that fit my exact situation, so I thought I'd ask.

The owner did get the car inspected today with no issues and he's ready to go his local courthouse to do the title transfer paperwork on Friday. Then I'll have a vehicle with current inspection and registration for the drive back home. Then it will be a little 7 hour drive in 100 + temps to get back home. I better pack the sunscreen.

Having been here on Club Cobra for many years, I have yet to see anyone speak so disdainfully about Jaycobras. Perhaps he struck a nerve with you as a cobra newbie, or perhaps your own "A" type personality feels slighted (face it, we are all "A" types here), however, you are soon to find out that the Cobra community is a small one, one where we rarely make enemies, and almost always retain knowledge and wisdom from those who know more than others. As such, might I suggest that you take a step back from your venomous post(s) and open your mind to what others may be telling you. Again, I'll say it as someone who has responded to far more requests for information than you can imagine. Also someone who has owned multiple Cobras (23 as of this month) of all shapes, sizes, makes and models. From reading your posts, it appears as you are hot and heavy for a particular car, perhaps due to it's price point, perhaps due to it's color or drivetrain combination, regardless, your judgement is being clouded by your passion, again, I suggest taking a step back and thinking long and hard about the facts vs what the seller may be telling you. Take that step away from the car for a bit (if it is meant to be, it is meant to be, if not, then you already know the answer), read this forum (do a search , you will be amazed at what is contained in the archives), and reread what others have stated, both current posts and in the past. Learn from these posts, that is one of the best features of this forum, that and the comradeship that hanging out here brings.

Yes, Jays seemingly curt response rubbed me the wrong way. I never understand why someone takes the time to respond to a new guys simple question with why don't you use search instead of just answering the question. I did search but didn't find the chaser to my particular situation. Probably I didn't use the right search query, but still a response of use the search wasn't helpful.

As a member of multiple other forums got a variety off other interests, I have never answered a question from another member with why don't you use search. It's hard to get the proper inflection of a persons posts when you're not actually speaking to a person and both of Jays posts came across a condescending.

If they were not meant that way, I apologize to Jay. Other members steered my in the right direction and I got the answer I needed, and I thanked those members for their help.

I appreciate the information I received from the forum and have been reading the archives which contain lots of good information.

Thanks for your input, If someone posts something that rub me the wrong way, I'll step away from the keyboard and think before engaging my fingers and replying.

He let the insurace lapse in 2011 and he can't get the car inspected without getting it insured. I have asked him to get it inspected so we can go to the DMV and complete all the paperwork for the sale of the car and get a new registration in my name.

Waiting to hear if he will do it.

If the car was titled and registered before do Not go to the DMV. Go to the county tax office. Fill out a title form, show them a copy of your insurance cover card and pay the sales tax. You are making this way to hard.

I said DMV, but really meant to say the county tax office were we get our car, truck, cycle, boat, etc license plates here in Texas. The car was titled and registered here in Texas, but the owner let everything lapse after he lost interest in the car.

Since I plan on driving it 400 miles back home after buying it, if it passed the state inspection I would have a warm fuzzy feeling about getting it home without any problems.

If it's been sitting that long, I might not have a warm fuzzy feeling about the gas in the tank, lines, injectors, etc. Perhaps a thick gummy feeling instead. At a minimum it needs a flush and a demonstration that it runs flawlessly.

He said he drives it periodically and that it runs fine. Hopefully a test driver will indicate if there are any problems with the car before I set our on a 400 mile drive back home
