Call Jay at Vintage. To borrow a phrase from an annoying radio commercial: "It's the biggest no-brainer in the history of mankind."

You are not buying a Ford or GM with a dealer with 25 miles of you 95% of the time. If I were buying new again I would buy from the closest one for warranty reasons. If the dealer is 1000 miles away, sure parts can be sent, or work subcontracted, why make it hard. Return to the guy down the street and have any issues addressed. Yes they all have issues which must be sorted in the first year.

Great choice of car!!

If not buy used and never have to deal with warranty concerns.

i have had a conversation with Jay today and am getting a quote on an in stock chassis. My only concern with the local dist. is seems like a one man show. I have been looking for used, the one i liked changed his mind on selling. a lot of the others are almost as much as this new one.

I live in Mena Arkansas. Yep middle of no where. I have a Backdraft coming from Jay at Vintage. Their reputation seems to be stellar and my experience has been nothing but good. In my case it would not matter what I bought because I'm close to nothing! From what I have seen and read if you want a Backdraft Cobra Vintage is the place to get it done!

Don't discount your local dealer. And there are plenty of well sorted used on cobra country that may suite your style. Don't shy away from one with 2-5k on the clock just means all the bugs should be worked out by then.

ajracing 01-15-2014 04:56 PM

I'm not

Mark Brye 01-15-2014 06:06 PM

I live in Washington State. My next BDR will be from Vintage also. But I still love the one I already have.

TexasSnake 01-15-2014 06:40 PM

I can't comment on Vintage but I do know and can speak about James Yale at Radical Roadsters of Texas. James is as honest as the day is long and does a great job on all of the Backdraft cars that enter his shop. I know numerous people that have purchased Backdraft cars from James and all have been extremely pleased. Plus, if you reside in the Houston metro area he is a great local resource.

ajracing 01-15-2014 06:46 PM

tried calling him several times, but answer. Would like to go and see his place. all things being equal believe I much rather buy local. Still am not ruling out a used one for the right price.

I purchased my Backdraft from FLP Cars in Joshua, Tx. Mathew is a meticulous builder who does a couple handfuls of cars per year (only BDRs and SPFs I believe). Mathew's attention to detail is over-the-top and his preparation of my car was perfect in every way, right down to the torque stripes on all the bolts. He stays in touch and always responds to my questions.

His site is Fastlane Performance Cars (Backdraft & Superformance). My car/motor is pictured on his front page.

Good luck!

I have met and spent a bit of time with James Yates at a couple of the St. Louis Run n Gun events. I found him to be a first class stand up guy. He was friendly, helpful to everyone and built some first class, bad assed cars. If he were in my neighborhood I would welcome the opportunity to cultivate a friendship and have business dealings with him.

Igotta,

Thanks, ilook into it.

I will try again to reach out to him.

I own a Superformance and would have James work on it if I did not have a preferred SPF installer here in town. I have seen his work and can only say it is TOP NOTCH!! He builds a nasty chopper too.

Hello All,

The Back draft Cobras have a great reputation across the Cobra community.

Here is a link to a thread of a person that visited the factory and some pics of their manufacturing process. This is another Cobra site with a great deal of experience represented by the members.

Backdraft Roadster Factory Tour (the short version).)

Best Regards,

Tony R.

Alex,

I purchased mine from James in 2008 - I am also considering putting mine up for sale this spring.
