Cooling off, let's ride.

Weather cooling down to 75 Sat. Thinking we should drive somewhere. How about Clarks BBQ in Tioga, TX. It is roughly 60 miles from downtown Dallas. Roads are twisty and fun up there. Who is in?

Lots of scenic roads up there .. need a consensus on a point of departure for the outbound trip. Or agree to all arrive there independently.

However one goes, the final approach from Dallas is best from Preston and FM121 in Gunter, then west to Tioga on FM121 (FM121 is not SH121). Or for even better curves, keep north on Preston to FM902 and head west to US377 and drop south to Tioga. Depends on how much time you have.

Westsiders would come in on FM455 to Pilot Point and head north on US377. Nice drive over the Lake Ray Roberts dam.

Does everyone want to meet in Dallas or Plano?

D Dubya 09-11-2014 12:01 PM

Time for an executive decision...
Here is the plan...
Let's take Sammys route...meet at NE corner of Beltline and 75 at 9:30 am.
Clarks BBQm opens at 11. Should take 30-45 min of travel time.
George wants to go to Eagles Canyon after lunch. Plan on going there if you can.
Gas up and see everybody on Sat. morning. Weather is going to be great!

For the group starting at 75 & Beltline, are you planning on taking 75 north to 121 (Van Alstyne exit) and head west on 121 to Gunter? For us north-siders, we can meet you in Gunter (or in between depending on route).

SSSammy 09-11-2014 01:58 PM

I'll meet you guys at Clark's. I'll probably leave McKinney around 10 am and go up Custer Rd/FM455 to Preston. If I catch you on FM121 we can race :D

Sam

gthompson 09-11-2014 06:40 PM

That sounds good

G-Pete 09-12-2014 07:28 AM

A very long 75 ride for a small strip rural road with 11 turns. How about a nice drive, meet at 75 and belt line in Richardson (Chase Bank) drive north on 75, exit Plano Parkway, hit east enter FM544 to Wylie, enter HW78 north around Lake Lavon, meet HW380 turn left towards east McKinney, in McKinney turn on HW5 north until Van Alstyne, then west on FM121 to Tioga.

Total of 84 miles takes less then 2hrs. All these meets this year were - on the highway drive in traffic - meet, eat - back on the highway in traffic. I'm little tired of it...

Here is the map, check it out and let me know guys...thx

Pete, now that's a road trip! You could also stay on TX78/160 till you hit FM121 north of TX121, then turn west :) You'll catch more grasshoppers!

I'm time constrained, so I'll see you guys at Clark's.

How many times will George have to stop for fuel?

Kevin.....

G-Pete 09-12-2014 12:18 PM

With his 42gal tank he will get there....hehe...he just have to fill it up!

gthompson 09-12-2014 04:44 PM

Not only am I going to fill up, but I am going to bring a 1 gallon gas can just in case.

After running out of gas twice the last 2 times that we did these road trips, I have a new appreciation for a full tank of gas.

Oh, the last time that I ran out of gas, I was in the center lane of I-35 going under 190. That created a little bit of an issue and the best part of that experience was watching Don as he kept driving north on I-35 to the race track as I kept calling and texting him so that he could help a brother out! Lol

I guess he figured that me being parked in the center lane of a highway wasn't an important enough reason to pick up the phone? WTH
