I plan on going as well. The past outings in Boerne were great and looking forward to what Conroe has to offer.

The site says free style for the hotel which is cool but highly consider La Torretta hotel and resort (old Del Lago) which is right on the lake. Phone 936 448 4400. I stayed there last year with anther group and it was awesome. The rooms are nice with a great view, has ample secured paved parking, and has a cool bar near the pool with great food. It is just off Highway 105 the main road through Conroe and is real close to all the twisty back roads going North. Cruising through the National Forest just to the North offers an exceptional drive and views too.

I'm close enough to stay home for the nights, but if there are a few people at the old Del Lago, I'll pony up. Go for the cottages instead of the towers.
Any takers?
It's much better to be able to have a little more than a few after a drive, and have a place to lay your head without a 1 hr drive home first.
|
From what I remember, the cottages are 2 BR/ 2 bath with a living room and kitchen in the middle, so partner up. Another option is the lake villas, but I don't know their layouts. The cottages are better for parking because they're at a dead end rather than a drive through.
|
I poked around on Travelocity to see what the deal is.
Looks like the villas are also 2BR, and considerably larger than the cottages, but $500/night. I think you're paying a premium to be on the lake, and maybe getting a boat slip in the deal too.
The cottages are just under $400/night. I didn't check the prices for double occupancy, but it looks like either way, the way to go would be double up in either. I still lean to the Cottages. They're on the golf course.
Here's the website. Your Texas Retreat - La Torretta - Montgomery, TX Click on the resort map and have a look-see. I think the cottages on the far right top would be best. There's parking in front of each so you don't have too much concern for hack golfers lobbing balls on the cars, and they'll be out tearing up the asphalt when the golfing is going on.

The web site now says the host hotel is the Fairfield Inn in Conroe on I45 with prices for queen and king rooms. It also lists the schedule of events and dates now. The scheduled route is much closer to the Fairfield Inn than La Torretta Resort and rooms are much cheaper at the Fairfield Inn. You have to email Janice to sign up, no phone listed.
|
So be it. I would rather stay with the group than a nice place.

For those that may stay at La Torretta, I live just around the corner on the lake in Del Lago. Perhaps a Friday evening cookout on the lake? I don't currently have a Cobra and may only know a couple people - but I am building a GT40 in the garage.

This would be a really cool idea and much appreciated. I would really like to see your GT40 build as that is the car I really wanted over my new Cobra but did not want to build myself or wait 2 years plus to get a new one. Superformance in Gulf livery left hand drive!!
