Unhappy Regulator Question

I am having a little time finding a draw on my electircal. The headlamps seem really dim and I can't find the problem. I thought I could do it but no. Question #1
Can you tell me what the I connection on the regulator is for? It seems that it is 12 volts when key is on. I just wired it as the painless kit told me to but I was wondering what it was for.

also, and don't think I'm stupid, I wired the horn from the painless kit. It has a single 12v wire to it and a ground from the horn. Here is the weird part........the horn works fine as when you push the button it honks but if you pull the horn fuse.....it still honks and if you check the horn fuse area it has 12v on both sides of the fusable link, without the fuse!!!!.

Now I have NO knowledge of that wizard stuff called electricity....
any ideas about the horn and how to find what is drawing juice from my battery??

thanks guys

Todd

Unhappy Lucas lights

Todd,

I think the problem might be the color coding on the wires on the Lucas headlights. Check which color wire you have as ground. On the Lucas lights, ground is green.

The "I" on the regulator is the excitor if my memory serves me correctly. As long as you have done the wiring as shown in the Painless instructions, you're OK.

As far as the horn goes, I'm a bit stumped there. The horn wire on the Painless kit is the green # 924 and should go to the horn. As you said, the other side of the horn circuit goes to ground. The horn wire comes from a relay, but I would think if the fuse were removed the horn would'nt work. Are you sure you pulled the right fuse? Check again, just to be sure.

Jim

Even if it's the wrong fuse, 12 volts to both sides is wrong...no fuse needed, (FIRE!). Sounds like you have some cross wiring. The Lucas lights could be it. Start pulling other fuses and see if one of them causes one side of that "dual 12v" to go out. If so, you at least know which circut. If you need some help, give me a shout, be glad to come by again. Sometimes two is better than one!
