TX Registration
Hi guys. As I get settled here in TX I need to begin to consider registration of my SPF. I had it originally titled and registered under the CA SB-100 program. Thus CA shows it as a 2003 "kit car" or Specially constructed vehicle, but let it smog as a 1965 car.
What does TX do in this regard? Do I need to worry re the "2003" registration and year, or will this state consider what it is and waive smog, etc? Any and all help is appreciated. StuM |
Don't think that question has ever come up before. Anyone know how Texas is going to deal with the Cali title?

I bought a Factory Five from Mass. and it was listed as a 2002 Replica. First you have to have your car inspected and then you will receive a "green sheet" from the inspector certifying your VIN is the same as on the car. This has to be done prior to the visit of your local county assessor/collector. My paperwork through my insurance company was stated as a 1965 Replica Roadster and thats the way the inspector saw it, no ommission just safety. My title now states its a 1965 Roadster. There was a transfer fee included because it was out of state. I used American Hobbyist Insurance, I filled out the documentation as 1965.

Seriously there is a long topic on it under the Texas section. Register the car as a 2002 and you have it inspected as the year it represents....thats it...there are a couple of people to call with the DPS if you have problems with the inspection station. Welcome to Texas. Matt |
The year represented is the correct assumption. You still have to do what I state above regarding the green sheet and so forth, the thread you are talking about only talks of getting the "replica" titled as a Assembled car and not a KIT CAR. The thread also talks of a DPS person in Dallas but the TXDOT is the governing authority not DPS, regarding titling. You visit the TxDot website and download all the forms you need. I reseached it and found the info regarding out of state title and the necessity for a green sheet. :JEKYLHYDE

Thanks guys. Sounds like this will be about as much fun as the original CA registration process. Lots of paper, money, more paper, folks poking at the car (and wanting to drive it) and finally....more paper! Maybe I'll just leave it CA registered and under my son's name out there! More $$$, less hassels!
