Default Ode to my Project Car

Three years in the making, a test of endurance.
Lost blood, lost skin, lost temper, lost patience.
Almost every piece lovingly customized to fit,
How can anyone dare say; "oh, it's a kit"?

No she was not made by a robot on an assembly line,
she was all made by hand, and mostly by mine.
So sneer if you must from your cages of steel,
yes the skin is fiberglass, but darnit she's real!

So stare if you like, or turn-up your nose.
But until you build one, you'll never know;
Tab-A, Slot-B, are your fantasy,
a craftsman's care and love are the reality.

The first morning start, oh what a rush!
As the pipes tear apart the cool morning hush.
Her voice is like thunder, some might even say loud,
But the sound of the engine makes a motorhead proud.

And every little nuance, I know them by heart
So any little problem can be resolved at the start.
The parts they are common, and American made,
no dependence on Japan or international trade.

So the purists can scream, the blow-hards can yell,
The ricers can all blow their engines to hell.
'Cause this car is mine, and closer than it seems,
to actually owning the car of my dreams.

Wow so very well said .
I restore cars and custom fab lots of parts .
Designing and putting your heart in what you do .
One time we took a Cobra to a very nice outdoor show and they did not have a so call kit car class, so I entered the early class their was a very nice 69 Camaro in the same class .He walked around all day telling everyone that the Cobra should not be in the same class and was nothing but a kit Car ! Finding this out just before the Awards were done We awaited the Presentation in my mind thinking is this really fare ? Being a car builder I told my self we have over 300 hrs in this paint job I know the owner has 500 plus in the car and it really could use more .I believe that it was as equal as the 69.Knowing that the owner of that car didn't like to loose I was really wanting 1st place even if we 95 % of the time take 1st. This one really was going to mean so much to me .
As 2nd place was called the owner of the Camaro got up and knew he had been beat .1st place went to Cobra Dudes Cobra as I walked up to receive the trophie I turned and said Wow we beat that nice Camaro !

Later I was told we were 1 point from winning Best of Show .

Take a Vett it has a Fiberglass shell so it should be a kit as well ! Very well said I to will post it in my shop .

rdorman - thanks for the suggestion. The editor of Kit Car says he'll use it when space permits...I guess that means they don't pay for submissions

Jim - You know this car will never be "finished". It'll be a work-in-progress 'till the day I die...or my job gets sent to a third-world-country.
