ERA600hp

Amazing time even at 4.489. Where will it end

I saw my first sub 5.000 pass at Calder Drag Strip in Melbourne about 8 or so years ago and was amazed to see and feel the pass.

Now Funny Cars are doing sub 5.000 to qualify..

In the sixties a mid 12 second street car was considered very, very quick.

Talking Tom, these guys are almost as fast as your ERA

Tom,
thanks for the call this morning, and I see that in the final run when he beat Doug Kalitta he ran a 4.489 @336.15 against Kalitta's 4.513 @324.90. Shumacher beat Brandon Bernstein in the semi's 4.504 @333.41 to Bernstein's losing 4.541 @328.78.
Man, Tony's car is really making some awesome top end power, and sticking it to the ground!
Shoot, the funny cars were running in the 4.70's at almost 327 mph!
I can't imagine what these cars are going to run at Ennis if the track temperatures don't get too high in this heat!
Speed, GOOOOODDD!!

NHRA keeps trying to slow them doen with rule changes and they just keep going faster. Wonder how fast they would be if differential ratios weren't mandated and they could still run 100% Nitro Methane.

I was there when Eddie Hill broke 5 seconds and the 300 mph that was super fast back then .
That was so so it .at that time I would have never thought they would be faster than that .It is truly amazing

I understand the engine builders now spin the motors to higher and higher rpm to overcome the "fixed rear end" ratio rule. THATS where the high top speeds are coming from.

Will the next step be a limit on engine rpm?

Excaliber

There's something about driving a drag car, that literally has a rotating bomb for momentum..

The big problem I hear is the drivers are now experiencing problems with detached retinas due to G Force and braking (Chutes)

Bernie, that's been happening for years. That is the reason that Garlits semi-retired so many years ago!

Lightbulb Is there a Garlits Jnr..

Slither

I only just read a medical report (daughters) in which there was a feature article on extreme sports and the damage both short term and long term to participants bodies.

The need for speed was a key section along with the many impacted areas on the body. The retinas are detaching under extreme G Force - Garlits

I won't go into what speed acceleration and braking does to the 'family jewels'..

Wow, never really thought of that. Glad I'm not planning to put NOS on my car. I'd hate to end up with a bad case of NOS N*ts!

Doug

PS - Sorry, Bernie!
