New 2008 Ford Shelby GT500 KR Announced Today!!!
Here you go a new 2008 Ford Shelby GT500 KR with 540 HP coming spring of 2008. I hear this additional 40 HP is not with a pulley so that could add another 40 HP. Only building 1,000 KRs so get in line!!! Two other vehicles also announced, Foose Ford F150 and a hip hop Expedition!!!!
_____________________________________________
Ford Motor Co. will unveil today three new limited edition vehicles driven by what it sees as an important, emerging trend: the division of the market into ever-smaller niches.
It's called "microsegmentation." Leading Ford's charge will be a new version of the Mustang, the Shelby GT-500KR. Boasting even more rubber-burning horsepower than the 500-horsepower base model GT-500, this limited edition 2008 model will arrive in showrooms in time for the 40th anniversary of the first "King of the Road" edition Shelby, one of the most sought-after muscle cars ever.
The new Mustang is a collaboration between racing legend Carroll Shelby and Ford's Special Vehicle Team. The new head of SVT, Hermann Salenbauch, will be on hand for the unveiling. He replaces the father of the modern Mustang, Hau Thai-Tang, who was recently tapped to lead the automaker's product development efforts in South America.
Ford will follow the Mustang with the new 2008 Ford F-150 Foose Edition -- the most powerful F-150 ever. Designed by customization star Chip Foose, this limited edition truck will boast a 450-horsepower 5.8-liter V-8 and street rod styling courtesy of the host of The Learning Channel's "Overhaulin'. "
The automaker will also show off a special limited edition version of another vehicle designed by urban legend Funkmaster Flex.
All three will make their official debuts at the New York auto show next week.
While none of these vehicles will top any sales charts, Ford hopes each will have an impact on the brand that far exceeds their low production runs.
And Ford plans to introduce other limited edition versions of the Mustang and F-series later in the 2008 model year.

The big question is: Will Kristen trade in her 07 for the 08?

And now we know why Chevrolet will be introducing a 600HP Z06 (I believe to be called a Z07). Prediction: The new Camaro will get the 500HP LS7 as a limited option.
It's 1970 all over again.

this....
and this......
...an unfortunate sign of the times...folks paying the premium to be the first to own, impacts the rest of us. Although this will be a limited piece, the GT500s will be a dime a dozen in a year.
...unless we don't buy...and I am not until the chaos cools down.

To add to John's flying pig, let's guess the weight of the new GT500KR.
I am guessing that new hood has added 50Lbs to the car...which will put it as the ripe weigth of 4000Lbs, give or take a few.
I am guessing for the drag racing crowd, you know Bill Bob and Jimmy Sue, they will be happy with the solid rear axle. It matches their club they use for hunting.
Come on Ford...for as much as these are marked up by the dealers, are you telling me an extra $3500-4000 for an independent rear end would not sell??!!

Looks cool, but I have to agree the prices are WAY wacked out by greedy dealers and insane people who have an extra $10-20K to spend.

I said MSRP was said to be around $55...Never said it was going to sell for that.
The only advantage the KR is going to have is "IF" Ford really only does 1000 units...that means you will have most stores only getting 1 car...its going to be a premium race boys...I would bet $15-25 over especially since the 500's are still running $10-15 over.

The KR COULD be lighter than the 07 GT500, if rumors are true, they are using the all aluminum version of the 5.4 out of the Ford GT. It'll be interesting to see.

Hey, any reference back to "the good ole days" I think is great, as long as it's not a facade (like the Mustang II or the 442 of 10 years ago) and it really has the performance to back it up.
The Hemi, Charger, GTO. Shelby 500 and now the KR sound like they have the cajones to resurrect the name and legend.
More power to 'em. Let's educate the 12 year olds that have no clue what a Shelby GT500 KR was or what it is now.
Somehow that's how we learned. This is our chance to explain where the name and the original came from.

John,
I don't think you can blame the dealers for the price of the Shelby GT 500 or Ford GT. Both cars have MSRPs from Ford that are clearly published on the cars. It's the public and something called supply and demand that sets the price. If know one wants one for over MSRP then MSRP will be the price! The one that really loses is Ford, as they are not benefiting from the public's driving up prices at all.

True, but the GT500 will be plentiful, it is not a limited run from Ford, 9K+ units are planned with 2008 being delayed, more may be produced.
If people had patience, we'd all win....dealers, Ford, customers. If people feed into the hype for this 4000 lb boat, which is currently happening...it will continue to happen.
I'll give a dealer a few grand over list for the newest piece of bling. But when they rape the consumer, I hope people stay away in droves. Let the GT500 sit on the lots and cost them money.

I recently visited a local dealer after work last week and was shell shocked to see their asking prices.
-Vista blue with white stripe GT 500. $79K....I told them they were NUTS!!!!!
-"Never sold" 2005 Ford GT....$205K
-Shelby Mustang GT for $48K (this car was white with silver stripes and the poorly laid white tape used for the hood scoop was full of air bubbles....pretty sad.
GT 500 KR??????.......call your financial advisor and go rob a bank!

Gene - whenever you see that occuring it most likely means they DON'T want to sell those cars. But if they do it will come an insane margin that then makes it OK.
BTW, they aren't nuts just a bit brighter than a handful of the customers.

An opinion, Ford Motor Company does gain when the special models are sold at inflated prices. The individual dealer's net profit is higher which allows them to price other vehicles more competively , thereby maintaining their overall profit margin. The higher prices work for a time until the dealer inventories start to increase and/or demand for the latest has diminished.
Most recent edition of AutoWeek did not have any classfied ads for the GT, new or pre-owned, previously there were 4 to 5 on a weekly basis which started at well over $200K and gradually started to decline.
The more cars the dealer sells, more production at the Ford factories for the non-special models and not having to offer discounts or no/minimum interest loans.
Granted it is last year's model, but a new never registered 2006 Dodge Viper SR10 Coupe is selling for $79,500 with a MSRP of $90,695, discount of $11,195 , even before some bargaining, no demand or ?
