WOW, those lads in AUS have it tough compared to my restrictions here in NY. I have to tell you, as a law abiding citizen, I would find it tough to willingly surrender a firearm that I originally purchased legally, but then suddnely becomes illegal as a result of some politician.

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms… disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. -Jefferson’s “Commonplace Book,” 1774_1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

I remember reading somewhere some years ago, I think it was in Switzerland or some other country near it, that ALL households were required to have an assualt type rifle and ammo and know how to use the weapon, for those that could not afford one, the goverment would provide the weapon/ammo and training at no cost to the household.............Guess what their crime rate was????????? about 15% of what ours was at the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go to any jail in the country and ask any felon about guns/ laws.....Everyone of them will tell you they would not likely try to rob someone that they knew was armed or break into a home knowing the owners were armed or at least had some type of guard dog.........Criminals are sometimes stupid, but they want to live also!!!!!! A lot less trouble to rob an unarmed person than an armed person and a lot safer for the criminal............ David |
