I heard a story of Jay racing Tim Allen's Saleen with this Cobra on his show... but I have never been able to find a video of it. As I heard it Jay smoked Tim's Mustang.

Who's Mark Garrish?

1985 CCX 06-30-2008 05:35 PM

Thanks for the share!
Nice to know that even though he has the means for a 3000 car he still holds on to old faithful a replica by Mark Gerrish. How many cars did this guy build? He was like the original KMS.

Mark Gerisch

Mark Gerisch was a principal in "M & L Specialties" (the "M" part...), who built this alloy Cobra repilca for Leno. The car was shown at one of the early SAAC Conventions in Dearborn, MI, probably back in 1986.

More recently, Mark runs a company in Green Bay, WI, called Genaddi Design Group, and was converting new Ford GT's into "GTX1" roadsters. In January, 2008, Genaddi announced that they were no longer going to build the GTX1 Ford GT roadster conversion, or the "GTB" butterfly (Lambo-style scissor-action doors) conversion for the new Ford GT. I believe they are still making carbon-fibre tops for Murcielago roadsters.

Gerisch is a fine craftsman and a perfectionist - his Ford GT "GTX1" roadster conversions are stunning and exquisitely detailed. Some day, I'd love to have one sitting in my garage, right next to my ERA.

That was great. Just closing up shop for the day and took a moment to watch the video. Nice car. Nice guy.

Couldn't afford a real one at the time, so he had one hand fabricated? Cool!

Jeff,

Yeah. That was the SAAC where I first met Jay, he was waiting for Mark to finish the car. He was driving Mark's first "Cobra" and we all went up Telegraph to Farrell's for ice cream.:D

Jay was just an "up and coming" comedian then, not a nationally known star, but a fun car guy who liked to drive, look and dream about neat cars. For several years after whenever he came to Buffalo to do a show, he would call me and leave tickets for the show. We always met backstage after for a chat. As he became a bigger star, it got harder and harder to get backstage after the show. Jay's solution? "Tell 'em your'e my cousin, they ALWAYS fall for that one"

Excellent video. Anyone that asks why would you want a Cobra should be pointed to this video. Thanks for posting it.
