I just got off of the phone with Elaine. John's surgery is tomorrow at 7:15 a.m. and should last approximately two hours. John's spirits are high and is ready to get the heck out of there. Prayers please during the surgery or at least good thoughts.

Important update!!!!
John will not be going into surgery in the morning. I just got off the phone with John and he is not confortable with his doctor and has decided for a second opinion. We will wait until he has that warm and fuzzy feeling. Please do not let the prayers stop.
After numerous surgeries I understand his feelings. More will be reported as it happens. Thank you all. Jay |

If for any reason you're not fully committed to your doc, get that second opinion! Following my hip replacement last August (for which I'm still having 9/10 pain level :mad::mad:) I'll always get a 2nd and probably a 3rd! Being stable, there's no rush, brother! |
John, I hope you don't have to go through what I went through when I got a second opinion. My original doctor got pissed, said he was insulted, yada yada yada. Be sure you are comfortable with what they are doing before they do it, or at least with the doctor that will be doing it. The stress of it is sometimes as bad as the pain.

Getting a consensus is prudent when you only have one neck. If your own doctor is insulted by the notion, then maybe that's a strong signal that you need a new doctor. It's a thin line between self confidence and arrogance. Too many people are afraid to hurt feelings, and THEY are the ones that end up hurting in the end.

A great medical professional will invite a second opinion to confirm their position and logically explain their rartionale for treatment/surgery. If a doctor balks at a 2nd opinion, then that certainly raises the red flag...and we know red flags...STOP! & regroup. :eek: %/ :(

A second or more opinions should be welcomed and expected by them.
It's your body & money,you are hiring them.You are the man in charge,they are hired hands. My prayers remain with you and your family. |
good news keeps coming
The second opinion is great. They are doing an MRI. If no ligament damage is found then no surgery will be needed. If any is found then surgery will be done on Friday. If no surgery is needed, then John will be released in a couple of days.
