Here's an idea:

Instead of lunch, what do you all think about a dinner meeting at some area mid-scale dining establishment? No soccer, football, basketball, or other parental obligations with which to compete.

Your thoughts and recommendations are invited.

Merry Christmas and we wish you all a healthy and prosperous New Year!

Joe Wicked 12-20-2008 07:38 AM

I like the idea. I may even get Trina to come out for it. The only possible issue is on Saturday nights they are usually full. Parking could be an issue, unless we did a 4PM meet up there. Did you already have a place in mind?

hey,littlecobra 12-20-2008 07:56 AM

haha. this sounds slightly directed at 'me'. (i know, others, too ;) ) lol

a distinct possible yes. lol lol

SSSammy 12-20-2008 10:19 AM

I'll attend either way

Yes, somewhere near Sunnyvale, I think :D:D

Possible downside is if it is otherwise a nice day, we'd miss a Cobra run by doing it in the evening. But if there is bad weather, then it's win-win .. ya never know!

I'm in. I like the evening idea too.

Why, just because you have all of the above!
And more?!

LREYBURN 12-21-2008 05:00 PM

"Grasshopper, sometimes one (or others, too) can be noticed by their absence."

If the weather permits driving, a cruise to an early dinner could be organized. Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations? We haven't been to Grapevine, Irving, Mid-town or the East side for several months.

jshel1 12-21-2008 05:47 PM

Count us in...

East side would be nice, though dinner time on the east side gets me nervous with patio dining being out this time of year.

I wouldn't call this place midscale, but Rowlett's newly revamped historic town square is very secure and not high traffic

Anybody else got anything?

PS... AER video is up; hope you enjoy the mods I made to the site.

hey,littlecobra 12-21-2008 06:53 PM

no.... not eastside. ugh. nothing 'great' over this way. Let's go some place fun! If we're doing late afternoon, maybe things won't be too crowded?? Like 5 o'clock or so?? That's still happy hour, right?? ;)

Although NONE of my chillen's have games on the 3rd; still 'Christmas holidays' and such. Now the NEXT one.... :(
So I like the idea of dinner, but if it's lunch i could probably make that, too.

Larry- you started this- you name it--- time and place!! :) :)

75 has a lot of restaurants in Plano. Outback, On the Border, Fridays, Olive Garden, IHOP, Fudruckers (not really mid scale), Abuelos, Red Lobster, Texas Land and Cattle (a little higher grade), Love and War in Texas is not too bad and is just off of 75. Lots of choices.

jdean 12-22-2008 04:06 PM

There is a Pappacitos and Pappadeaux there too.

Prof 12-22-2008 04:15 PM

Restaurant idea

A new Uncle Julios just opened in Allen. Folks are raving about it and experiencing two-hour waits on weekend nights.
Paul

SSSammy 12-22-2008 06:50 PM

Good idea, Prof. Hey, there's also a new Nate's at that same location (Stacy and 75) ... But, I think long waits are going to be typical on Sat night at any decent place. For that reason, I prefer a luncheon at 11 ish and see if we could drive the cars and not be out after dark on Sat night after imbibing ...

I like John's idea of Pappadeaux in Richardson or something similar and make it a luncheon so we don't have to try to seat 30 people on a holiday Sat night ;) They can handle us and have been good in the past.

But I'll be there, whatever the consensus is ...

Nate's Seafood & Steak House Inc.
14951 Midway Rd.
Addison, TX 75001

A little more central location

MMMMMmmmmm.... Gumbo, shrimp, steaks, etc........
Big enough and grubby enough for this motley crew!!!!

Bwana Snake 12-22-2008 07:40 PM

Ditto on Nate’s and they have a deck so you can oversee the cars, assuming the weather cooperates and the food is great.

Lefty’s on Beltline is also a good option cheap lobsters.

Gary

LREYBURN 12-22-2008 08:23 PM

Sammy desires to imbibe (yikes), and also doesn't want to miss a chance to drive his now healthy ride; several want some seafood, the East side south of NW Hwy is out; HLC can make it maybe this time, Holman Moodyis in for Tex-Mex or Cajin; Jackie is concerned with the cleanliness of Nate's (has anyone seen the carpet in there lately...is there a carpet?) has anyone heard from Jcups lately? Patrick, the Club House on Manana is NOT! Who else is on the missing list?

I'll check out some locations tomorrow for either lunch and/or early dinner including reserved parking and post a recommendation for your consideration.

BTW, What is on your Christmas wish list?

And I don't plan on eating off the so called carpet!

Christmas list ??.................. to have my clients pay their f#%@ing invoices!!

This economy SUCKS!!!!!!!

LREYBURN 12-23-2008 12:43 PM

Meet cha at "Lefty's"

Okay. I selected Lefty's Lobster and Chowder House located just west of Midway on the North side behind Jason's Deli. They will block off several parking spaces right in front for us plus enough seating by the front windows for our group (30 to 40).

They open at 5:00 pm and I told them that we would all be there no later than 5:30 pm (seating).

You can check out the menu at http://www.leftyslobster.com/.

If seafood isn't your thing then they have other selections on the menu.

Merry Christmas and we wish you a wonderful New Year! See you on the 3rd.

I only have 1 Christmas wish. I am a simple man and do not want much. All I want is a Cobra Replica in my Garage that I get to keep.

Bwana Snake 12-23-2008 02:30 PM

One on the owners at Lefty’s, we call her mama, is a friend of ours. I take customers in there three or four times a month. If this is what we decide to do I will try to get her to block off a section of the parking lot for us. The food is great and they will prepare almost anything they have however you want it; “Have it your way”. I probaly can get her to open, at least the bar, a littler earlier for us, say cocktails at 4:30 abd dinner at 5:00.
