I spoke with Fran a little while ago and he is going ahead as he has sold over half the run to a dealer and some others not whinging about here. He has comissioned new moulds and is full speed ahead.
The available quantity is decining..................................
Oh, and he also has an original set of Halibrand mags on hand now. Don't ask me for the price, I never even asked.

No my friend, I would not do that. Leave the $5K wheels to the 'original' owners who now have $800K+ assets.
Fran can sell the other half of his run to the original Gran Sport owners so no tears for him.
I'd rather see you get a set of aluminum pin-drive Trans Am Minilites, 15 x 8 and 15 x 10.
Rodney too-No matter how much they cost...

Wasn't Evan looking for a R-E-A-L set?
Rodknock - Fran wants me to call...now!? But I got some, just a few months ago! What timing. Oh, well, can't complain.
It's looks like they're getting made. Just like those with faith had thunk. :p

If you don't want them, then don't call him. I told him that you had bought a set of Halibrand's already. No big deal.
When Fran says he has 1/2 of the production sold, then I trust him. He always told me that he needed to sell 25 sets to start, so he must be right around 1/2 that figure +/-. Speculating, of course.
Until I have them in my garage, I'll remain skeptical, but he did say that he met with the production facility this past weekend.

Getting a brand new set of magnesium wheels that have re-engineered, built and coated utilizing modern techniques and technology, eschewing originality, doesn't really sound like me at all. :p  :JEKYLHYDE ;) **)

Lastly, the wheel manufacturer needs to make a new mold, front and rear, since they no longer have or no longer can use Halibrand's old molds.
|
These wheels are $1200 a wheel if I'm correct, ($4800) that's only a $1800 dollar increase over the wheel offered by GM in 1998 for the Vette, ($3000) that seems about right seeing that was 15 years ago for the GM wheel so the price seems spot on. And Fran cannot negotiate the same deal as a large-multi national corporation.

Does anyone think these wheels would patina like the originals did seeing they are made with new coatings and modern technologies?????

I believe this is Fran's manufacturing facility and was Halibrand's when they were making the wheels.
The M & A Castings Advantage
I'm betting they don't patina as quickly as prior iterations.
Fran will require a 50% deposit and I forgot to mention that the outer rim or lips will be polished per my conversation with Fran.

If anyone wants to know the real deal on these wheels just call Ted at MA Castings. He told me that although there has been interest now and then over the last few years including most recently here on this thread they have NO plans to make them. Fran simply cant come up with enough deposits to justify it.....I'm glad I bought my NOS set when I did....

Does anyone know if Ted or Fran has tried the vintage Corvette guys too? That might add enough interest to fund 25 sets with our guys here...

Don't be shocked. I you look back at other threads this seems to be going on back and forth for a few years now. It just doesn't make good business sense. Unless Fran wants to point up his own cash and sit on a bunch of wheels for a long time....

Here's why that won't work, and Cobrafan1 didn't realize that I was being facetious. The guys around here, that claim to want the mags, are too cheap to pony up the five grand in advance in order to fund the venture. The guys that can make the wheels are too gun-shy to start the venture on the speculation of making the sales. Sooooooo, with both sides playing the "you go first, no you go first, no you..." game, the deal will never, ever, ever, ever, ever get done. That dog is dead -- time to just bury her in the backyard.

Even if you're right (and I know there are real $$ guys here that would) ---
Do you know if the Vette guys have been marketed?
