BillBoard Lettering
I am glad to see this seperate forum finally. I would have commented earlier however it looked like everyone was having too much fun.
I just finished cleaning up the old Good Year paint on my tires and was going to repaint the lettering this week and wondered if anyone had any success with this product?

I have seen the other threads and I know there are some that recommend the plastic dip paint, however I really don't know if I want to take all the time to mask off the letters and this seems like it might work.

I tried a similar product I got from Checker Auto. It didn't work well on the billboards. The applicator was too rigid and it was difficult to get an even application. This product may work better though.

I bought a small pint from this source:

I get the impression that a couple young guys started the business when they stumbled on the fact that road striping paint sticks to everything and doesn't come off easily (they're right). I never did get my Billboards (at least not yet), but I did test this stuff on some other tires. It needs a good 3-4 days to really dry well, but it's very durable and whenever I switch to Billboards someday this will be the first stuff that I give a full beta test on.

I used a white fabric pen.....seemed to hold up pretty well although they did turn a yellowish/brown after a while.

All you guys are after new white lettering and I am trying to make mine look older. I would like the yellow/black look that they get after years of use. I heard that tire dressing does it? Any thoughts?

I tried it and it did not work worth a crap. Think I will give the testors model paint a try next time.

Well, I ordered the Rangerpaint...I am hoping that doesn't take too long to get here as I think that is the best option outside of the plastic paint. I'll let you know how it goes.

Well I'll give a nod to XLR8OR, if he says it don't work thats good enough for me.
I've tried several products over the years, with varying success. I just ordered the Ranger stuff, we'll see.

While I prefer my lettering to stay white, I did have problems using a gel tire dressing with foam applicator pad that tended to make the white lettering dirty looking. However, it sounds like this is the effect you are looking for. The spray on dressings don't seem to have this effect. |
Has anyone asked Goodyear what they use? Might be worth an email. (if they respond that is)
