Question TKO to TKOII conversion?

Does anyone know if it is possible or practicable to change the 5th gear ratio in my TKO to the 0.82 ratio of the TKOII?

What is involved, how much disassembly etc?

Thanks in advance.

Wilt-
It's simple- a matter of 7 bolts- four on the bell housing and three on the trans mounts and drop in the new trans
All kidding aside, I would be interested to see what the answer to this is. Maybe David Kee knows??

Chaplin - it ain't that simple, engine-out job on my car, so a few more bolts to undo. LOL

Wilf - I did this over the winter - took an easy Sunday afternoon

Parts were just a little over $500 - got them from Dark Horse Performance and were in stock. They consisted of a new fifth gear/synchro assembly, main shaft and 9 little o rings that seal the shift rails where the housings meet.

If you don't have a manual, suggest you order one with the parts or download the PDF version from the Tremec web site. Lots of little parts like rollers from the bearings to keep track of but nothing too complicated. Only special tool neeed is a c-ring spreader (kind of a backwards duckbill pliers) to get a hefty c ring off the main shaft.

From my perspective, the shorter fifth is a great improvement. Before the change it was a little like driving my old Healey 3000 with the overdrive which just died when you hit the OD switch in fourth; now it's a very natural progression all the way from first thru fifth.

John - thanks for that, was what I wanted to hear. I suspect I will be chasing springs and rollers over my garage floor this winter, I really do hate that too-tall 5th.
