Bob,
You could also add the Richmond Gear 6 speed to your chart. If you want to encourage that sort of thing.:3DSMILE: The standard ratios are the same as the 5 speed with the addition of a .76 OD. There are many custom ratios available, for extra $ of course. I got mine with a 3.04 1st gear and .80 OD. I will be using a 3.07 R&P. Don't have it running yet, but the numbers look like a winner. By the way, do you know if a TKO 600 will fit in an ERA w/o chassis modifications? Sounds like you will get some requests if you haven't already.

The implication in the blurbs that I've seen is that the 500/600 is the same size as the TKO. If someone has any better information, I'd like to know.

Everything I've been able to come up with indicates the same thing that Bob got. The changes are internal while the external case remains the same size. Now if I could only find one to the 600 (TCET4617 for Ford) with the .82 fifth gear I'd buy it on the spot.
Have standing calls in with Fortes, Powered by Ford and Standard Transmission and gear but no ones to the .82 Fifth. A lot of the .68's but that is too high for me.
If anyone hears of a supplier with the above please let me know.

TKO 500 (part #4616) 1st= 3.27 2nd = 1.98 3rd= 1.34 4th = 1.00 5th = .68........TKO 500 = 500 ft/lbs torque.

TKO-600 (part #5009) 1st = 2.87 2nd = 1.89 3rd = 1.28 4th = 1.00 5th = .64.....TKO 600 = 600 ft/lbs.

Tremec also makes a TKO 600 "Road Race"

Hope this helps

TKO600 for Ford (Part# TCET4617) 1st=2.87, 2nd=1.89, 3rd=1.28, 4th=1.00, 5th=0.82.
These ratios are similar to the wide Ford top loader but with a 5th gear overdrive. Referred to as a "road race" box.

Tremec now has a steady stream of TKO 600 (5th .64) and TKO 600 road race (5th .82) going out to all distributors. Inventory on hand depends on distributor.

Competitive price for these are:

TKO 500 (low $1700)
TKO 600 (mid $1700
TKO 600 RR (high $1700)

So far TKO 600 had been the best seller.

Some dealers are offering discount group purchases.

Anyone know the available shifter position measurements from the front of the TKO 600? I read somewhere that there is 3 possible locations as well as optional offsets for different console fitments.

I took delivery of a TKO 500 from Mike Forte 3 weeks ago. He is an advertiser here on the forum, you should look him up. He modifies them with a new input shaft so you do not need an adapter plate to put them behind an FE. You can buy the whole shooting match from flywheel to yoke, and it will work. Only one thing... he really pushes his external hydraulic clutch set-up with a fork, but the internal hydraulic throw-out is much better in my opinion. If you are careful in the set-up and bleeding, you won't have any problems.... and it's all neatly concealed inside the bell.

Dear: rr454

The TKO 500 and 600 have up to 8 different shifter locations (front, mid, back, back location handles 6 locaitons when you add in 2" offset shifter).

To see a design/drawing of the exact locations go to this web site link and make sure you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page. It will show you all location and messures.

Here's the link, remember to scroll down to the bottom of the page. Hope it helps you out. TKO's handle up to 600 ft/lb torque.

Talked to Joe D. at Standard Transmission in Fort Worth today and the new Short Shaft is in stock now..... Tremec factory input shaft....

They can convert the Ford TKO 600 over to a short shaft so it works with a Lakewood bellhousing and no spacer....

Should be stronger as you have less thing to cause the input shaft to be off...

Moris,

Do you know what spline is on that "Tremec short input shaft"?

Morris 10-22-2004 07:17 PM

Steve

It's the 1 1/8" 26 input spline..... Ford.....

Tremec finally started making them so we could run the TKO 600 with the Lakewood bellhousing as used for the Top Loader....

Another foot note is that the output shaft is a 31 spline and you can get the 1350 Spicer U-joints for the driveshaft...

Jeg's or Summit is where you would get the Yoke...

Another foot note is that Tom K. is suppose to have the brackets done in the next few weeks to fit the TKO 600 into the frame....

You'll have to take the car to a welder to put the brackets on so everything fits...

I will take my toploader trans out to get a TKO 600. The only thing which I am not sure about is wether to choose the .64 or .82 5th gear. Final ratio is 3.54 and 305/50-15 tires
Any driving experience with on or the other ratio?

Eljaro,

I have a TKO with the .62 5th gear and it is only useful on the "Auto Pista" for normal driving it's worthless. I am also thinking of switching to the 600.

Well, in the end I have decided to get the .82 5th gear TKO600.
It will probably help my Cobra reach a higher top speed than with the .64.
Too steep an RPM drop with the .64 and probably only good for lazy cruising, but for chasing Porsches and fast Audis the .82 is the better choice.
I am getting prepared to do some crossmember surgery in order to accomodate the TKO mounting support, which is about 2.3 " further back compared to the TL.

My Contemporary Cobra has a crossmember tube with the gearbox mounting plate. The 2.3" offset practically hits the top of the tube with no space for the rubber mount in between

Anyone has experience and pictures of such a job?
eljaro
