Anyone have a C4 auto they can measure for me?
I bought a car with a C4 automatic in it. One hour after I got it home the transmission was in the trash. Really - no joke. Once I put the car back together, it'll have a Tremec TKO600 in it. Here's my problem. My background is Chevy, where all Chevy engines and all Chevy transmissions fit all Chevy cars. EVERYTHING is interchangeable. As I found out after the fact, this is NOT so with Ford. Soooooo..........seeing as how my car has a welded in transmission crossmember, I have to now try to figure out if the mount on that crossmember is in the right place so that using the proper transmission mount the Tremec will be mountable to crossmember that used to hold the rear of the C4 automatic. Can anyone who happens to have a C4 automatic laying around measure from the face of the transmission/block mounting surface (basically the front surface of the bellhousing) to the centerline of the rear transmission mount holes on the tailshaft? This is my first Ford, and I'm loving it. However, they sure don't make swapping engines and transmissions easy. I'd love to replace my Cleveland with an FE, but that means cutting out the mounts and rewelding in a new fabricated set. I'm not much of a fabricator at all, so I'm just not going to bother. I'm hoping now that I don't have to cut and weld a new transmission crossmember in.

The measurement you are asking for is 20 and 1/4 inchs.

Your mount problems aren't Ford related, they are a function of your chassis--I used to hear that all chevies interchange and I want you to know that there are just as many various mismatches on Chev as on Fords, maybe more
You still on the 737? The day after Thanksgiving it will be 10 years since I last flew a 777 and have an appointment to get my first class physical renewed next week

Hmmmm...I never once ran into a problem like this with a Chev. - Took many a small block / auto combination out of Vettes, Chevelles, Camaro's and Novas, and dropped in stick shifted big blocks, never had a problem, it all just dropped right in. Can you tell I'm not a fan of automatic transmissions? I guess I'm just an old guy who's old school. Give me lots of cubic inches and a clutch pedal and shifter, and I'm happy.
Yeah, I'm still on the guppy - junior Captain. I'll probably retire on it. It's not Boeings finest moment, but it sure beats flying a crappy Airbus.

But hey, it's cheap, right?
I don't allow my family to ride on Airbus's. If the general public only knew what a piece of garbage they really are......
Anyway, back to Cobra stuff, this airplane talk will bore these guys to tears, rightfully so.
