NJ Cobra and Replica Car Bill Up for Vote

Have just received this info from a customer in NJ. Please, if you live in NJ and want to ensure a clearer path to the inspection, registration, and titling of your cars and street rods, please support this effort (it has died before, don't let the trend continue):

NEW JERSEY COBRA and REPLICA CAR OWNERS

Registration and special plates for Street Rods, Replica Vehicles and Custom Vehicles (Bills, SB S687 and A-448) are to be considered by New Jersey Senate Committee on Feb. 2, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the State House Annex 125 West State St. 3rd Floor, Committee Room 10 Trenton, NJ

Ladies & Gentlemen, We should send e-mails to all the State Senators listed on this Commission to request their support in voting in this bill. Hopefully this bill will pass and allow a smooth registration for replica cars In NJ in the future.

Want to keep this on the map.

charlierr 01-15-2011 08:57 AM

Just sent my emails to the five Senators. Thanks Cashburn for bringing this to our attention.

Cashburn 01-15-2011 06:53 PM

Thank you for sending the emails.

A448 is correct for the assembly bill and S687 is the same bill for the senate. S2074 was last years bill. Are you shure about the 2/2/2011 meeting since there is no year posted?

Jimeg 01-16-2011 12:49 PM

Yes, the meeting is on 2/2/2011 as you can see from the SEMA Action Networks URL below. It is bill # SB 2074. I asked Jay to post this for us New Jersey guys as I'm not the best with the ins and outs of posting new threds. Hopefully our clubs NJ members will see this and e-mail the Senators involved.

Snakebit 01-16-2011 02:39 PM

I am typing letters as we speak.

Jimeg 01-19-2011 09:28 AM

NJ Registration

Well for what it's worth....I e-mailed the various Assemblypersons and Senators that I could find addresses for in hope of getting some more attention to this bill.

Mattnshilp 01-23-2011 07:56 AM

Thanks for letting us know about this. My letters are sent.

I just got this response from one of the offices.

"Thank you for your email regarding your support for legislation that
would authorize issuance of special license plates for street rods and
extend authorization to replica custom vehicles. *Please know that S2074
was reintroduced in 2010 and is now numbered as S687. I will certainly
keep your support for this measure in mind if and when the bill should
come before the full Senate for a vote.

Again, thank you for your outreach on this issue of importance to you.

Sincerely,
Senator Tom Kean
District 21"

So let's adjust the letters for accuracy to support "S687".

Thanks Matt, so noted. I guess we can only hope for the best.

Sent my notes in (in process of moving back to Jersey)

Snakebit 02-01-2011 06:01 AM

They are voting on this tomorrow 2/2/2011. Call the Senators on the State Transportation Committe and ask for their support. The new bill is S687.

The Transportation Committe is meeting next week, not tomorrow.

charlierr 02-04-2011 11:39 AM

Just made my five calls to the senators. It took less than ten minutes. Hope they pass it.

D111 02-09-2011 12:06 AM

Did you call?

Snakebit 02-10-2011 08:24 AM

I checked the NJ transportation comittee schedual on line and bill S687 was not on the schedual for the February 7th meeting.

Anyone Know if NJ S687 passed?

Does anyone have an update on this?
I just bought a Cobra here in NJ and am hoping all this passed. Here is the govt site with the bill but I can't tell if it has passed.

New Jersey Legislature - Bills

Also - I need to get a letter from a local club, affiliated with the National Hotrod Association, stating that my Classic Roadsters #446, is a collector car and registered with the club. Can anyone help me here or point me in a good direction? From the bill... "The special plate shall be issued upon proof that the street rod or replica custom vehicle is registered in a New Jersey street rod club which is fully affiliated with the National Street Rod Association, Inc."

I really appreciate anything that will help me get on the road.

Paul
