Northeast factory stock race
Any interest in this?
2004 Northeast Factory Stock & FAST DRAGS Drag Race July 24th Englishtown, NJ Raceway Park www.musclecarrace.com |
Are you talking about attending to watch the race or to actually participate in it?
|
So, on a web site with mostly replicas that people would race, how do you propose to "classify" our cars, as each one is hand built to different specifications than the others............
Bill S. |
watching or racing
Anyone is welcome to watch, we plan on having a fun day for everyone who comes.
As far as classifying cobra clones, thats a tough one. If your car is real and can prove it with documentation, no problem. I am sure some of you may have other cars other than cobras that are eligible. I can't really allow clones, because their are more Ford Cobras, Chevy Yenko Camaro's, Pontiac Judges, Hemi Cuda's then there ever was 30 years ago. Everyone would show up in a 427 " C.O.P.O." Camaro or Nova at that point. This is supposed to be a fun day for owners of any muscle cars in the 60's, and 95% of prior participants run just for fun against old adversaries. Its a great day to be trackside, participant or not. Alot of information is exxchanged between different brands of vehicles, which normally does not happem. No ego's here, just a good time. |
Sounds like fun. Make a video of it, I'll buy it and watch it. But If I'm going to go to the track it couldn't be as a spectator. I can't "watch" racing.
|
At the dragstrip everybody is a spectator. Those racing spend all day watching others race until they get their 5-15 seconds of track time.
You want track time go to a road course, you spend 1-2 hrs a day at speed instead of 1 minuite. Drag racing= thrilling Road Racing= thrilling and tireing. Cranky:D |
Why would you have to prove your car is real????
WHO would bring a real Cobra to the drag strip??? BTW - NHRA mayl not let open cockpit cars run without an approved roll bar. A single hoop is not an approved roll bar. They may or may not enforce it at all tracks. Drag Racing = Flaccid Racing Road Racing = Chubby Racing Love and Kisses, JM (A former drag racer) |
I'll second the question:
Why would anyone here want to bring a real $200,000+ Cobra to a drag event that the NHRA will not let them participate in. After running a 12.01 at 115mph, I got thrown off the track at Englishtown a few years ago for not having more than the stock 3 point roll bar................... http://www.gsrmc.org/racewaypark2001/drag9.jpg Road racing is where I'll be from now on. http://www.bills2.us/pocono2.jpg Bill S. |
Bill... you didn't actually dress up like that to drag race, did you? :p
How does road racing differ from open track? Isn't "open track" where they let you drive fast on the days when they are not using the track for actual racing? :3DSMILE: |
Ron,
It was a cold day in October, the racing suit kept me warm :p :p :p :p :p . Bill S. |
Oh, OK.... the guys in the backround appear to be amused...
...perhaps they mistook you for Sterling Moss, an understandable resemblance. :3DSMILE: |
Ron,
Those guys in the background were thinking. " that's the kind of suit we need when we are out there pulling our cars out of the snow"   Cranky |
Bill,
Nice pic from Pocono, izzat you, Tom Raddin and Ken Walder in that Beirut infested infield? Cool! Ron, Yup....Open track when they are not racing. Unless NASA has a combined event. A number of us are moving into the Endurance races this year as well as American Iron Extreme. So we will be doing more than just Open Tracking. |
Cranky --> :LOL: :LOL:
JM - sounds great... we'll all eventually end up with closed cars, eh? What do you know about Legends racing in NY? ..just upstate? |
JM,
That is indeed who is there...My favorite shot of the whole day............I miss my first Cobra, more the color than the car........ Ron, Rumor has it they were looking at my "perky" butt    Bill S. |

Ron,
Don't know much about Legends Racing in the north. It is very popular in WV, when we run with NASA, they have a Legends series with about 20 - 30 cars. In fact, I bumped into a CC member at Summit Point who ran a Legends car. Can't remember his name right now. NASA is trying to make inroads in the NE, I think if they do, you may see the Legends series become more popular up thissa way. |
boy you guys are really something
Let's review : "I am sure some of you may have other cars other than cobras that are eligible. "
Maybe I was presuming here, but I would think that some of you have more than one car? Hopefully a muscle car. If you want to have a fun day just to watch, then come out and you'll have a great time. Everyone is invited, no egos needed. Were all grown men now. ---------------------------------------- Now as far as attitudes go: For the 5 of you who have $200,000 cars. I think you should leave those home. For the other 150 of you who have replicas. I think you should leave those home. For the other 500 of you who are pretending you have a Cobra, but in reality have a 68' GTO...you are welcome. |
Gonzo,
No attitude, been there, done that. I lived at Raceway park in the 70s and early 80s. I like road racing okay? Yes, I have another car that qualifies, it goes road racing. ...and what are you driving??? |
