Default Title/registration questions for NC

I am not yet an owner but am wondering what it is like to register and title a cobra in NC. I see some are titled as an old vehicle, say 1965, and I've seen others that are titles as new.
Can they have Antique Auto license plates if they are titled as a vintage vehicle? Just trying to figure out the annual registration fees and taxes they charge here.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Your taxes will vary by county, your local plate office will do the paperwork, NC is kit car friendly, so it can, and should be titled as a "1965 replica", because of the "1965", it will be emissions exempt. If the car has never been titled, and is on MSO, you'll need to provide this, and copies of all parts, including kit, to show sales tax being paid. If the car has been previously titled, you cannot retitle it as anything else, as the VINs are now tracked nationally.

I finished building mine in NJ in 1997 and I went thru Tiles Unlimited in Alabama. I would send them info regarding my car as 1965 Cobra and they sent me an Alabama registration. That acted as a bill of sale and I used that to register my car in NJ . Well that is no longer legal. I moved to NC about 5 years ago and they questioned my title and vin #. I had to go thru a NC inspection and they issued me a new NC vin# and a new classification, Ford Replica. It's really quite an easy procedure. Good luck.
