Bay Area Caravan for 2007 WSCB

Not to sidetrack the main caravan thread, but for those heading up from the Bay Area, last year we met at the Kohls Shopping Center in Walnut Creek.
John Place previously provided these instructions: Hwy 680 North past Walnut Creek, take the Monument Blvd Exit, immediately turn Right into Buskirk Ave, then immediately Right into the parking area.

We tried to leave last year by 10 AM (but were just a little late) which got us there about an hour before things opened up as I recall. If this works for all, how about doing a repeat of 2006 - time and location? The parking lot is large enough for all our cars and trailers and there are a few shops there for some necessities.

Again Auburn arrival right about lunchtime - get fuel for the cars and ourselves. Would be great to meet any NorCal folks in Auburn and caravan up together.

Any thoughts about meeting in Walnut Creek at 11 rather than 10, thus we would arrive a bit closer to 3:30? Please add your 2¢. Might be a little less stressful for our San Jose/Gilroy drivers. An alternative would be to leave around 10 and find a side road so we don't take I-80 the whole way - downside is that it is already a long drive - just a thought.

Fifty days and counting! Tom :MECOOL:

My .02 cents. I wouldn't mind the 11:00am time. I would also like a place to meet in San Jose for those of us driving up to Walnut Creek. I like the idea the freeway all the way because it represents the minimum time I'm curled up inside my car. I have a 40 gallon tank, but I'm dependent on my 1 hour legs!

dlang14 03-28-2007 09:42 PM

Tom, I like both ideas. Meeting at 11 would be nice to avoid the morning commute traffic, at the same time one of the things I loved about snakes to the lake was the back roads we took rather than blast up the freeway. Also less rock chips that way, the nose of 2293 took a pounding at last years WSCB trip up highway 80

Where exactly is the auburn lunch? Last time we lost the crowd and ate someplace near but not there, which turned out fine but this year I'd like to find the elusive auburn lunch spot :o

Dave last year 5 or 6 of us met at a Starbucks in Milpitas. I'm open to meeting anyplace in SJ.

Now my .02 cents worth...any one leaving from the Millbrae to Sunnyvale areas? If so, let's meet somewhere and make the trek to the East Bay.

Maybe somewhere close to Highway 92 so we can cross the bay there and avoid SF.

Thoughts?

I expect #479 sometime late next week-so we are still in for the WCSB. Are you all planning on track day. I'll be making the trek up on Friday with Fiancee in hand. I'll happily caravan with anyone who'd like to.

The wife and I are heading up on Thursday...no track day for me this time out.

cobrasnake 03-29-2007 09:17 AM

Daryl - last year a number of us met at Ikeda (no not Ikea) at the Foresthill exit (just east of downtown) and then left onto Lincoln Highway a couple of blocks. There is a Chevron and 76 station at that exit for gas and Mini-mart. Here is the link. http://www.ikedas.com/auburn.htm

I would suggest the SJ area guys coordinate a meeting spot and time that works for you. The overall group just has to decide if Walnut Creek works and when. We still have time for others to pipe in.

Dino - as we come from Burlingame, we could meet at OSH in Foster City about 60 minutes before expected departure. That should leave enough time to fuel up in Walnut Creek prior to meeting. Will that work for you?

Dinobyte 03-29-2007 09:20 AM

Sounds good...so meet at OSH 10am?

11 am at Kohl's Walnut Creek parking lot sounds fine to me. This should put us in Sparks around 3-4 pm, assuming lunch at Ikeda's.

Dave,
Last year the south bay group meeet at Starbucks in Milpitas. It is right off 680 on Calaveras rd. There is also a Flames resturant there that a few got there early and ate breakfast. I think we meet there around 1 hour a head of the Walnut Creek departure. We could do the same a again this year. We tried to pick a close spot that no one would have to back track since it is such a long drive.
I am heading down after work today to order my new tires to get ready for all these upcoming events.(OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

That can work for me. If anyone wants to meet in Cupertino or Los Gatos for the drive to Milpitas, chime in, otherwise, I'll just motor on down to Milpitas solo.

Just trying to dial in our logistics - sounds like we are set to leave from Kohls in W.C. @ 11 - arrive by 10:30-10:45 to schmooze and make sure you have gas, etc. Any issues with an 11 AM departure?

Not totally sure where/when the South Bay guys will meet for their convoy.

Dino Mike and anyone else from the Peninsula - depart OSH in Foster City at 9:45 rather than 10 just due to uncertainties with the extra traffic resulting from the Maze (no we won't go that way) and to make sure we can gas up in W.C. - OK?

We can stop at Ikeda's or where-ever it is decided upon departure.

Ten days and counting . . .

Mark Roe 05-07-2007 01:34 PM

I like the 11AM departure--I'll see ya there. Looking forward to WSCB '07!!

Looks like I will not be attending...the car, specifically the motor has a horrible oil leak that cannot be plugged in time. 1500 miles on this motor...uggh!

So go, have fun and I wish I you all the best guys!

Where and at what time do expect to be in Auburn (or going through Roseville)? Looking for some company on our drive to Reno on Thursday late AM - early PM.

cobrasnake 05-08-2007 08:43 AM

Phil - we should be in Auburn around 12:15-12:30 assuming we leave Walnut Creek at 11. We will stop for gas and lunch and depart some time around 1:30±. Last year some folks stopped in downtown Auburn while others stopped at Ikedas at the Foresthill exit, just east of downtown. I know there will be a group of us at the later location and you would be most welcome to join us there. Probably better to meet in Auburn than wait on the side of the road in Roseville - your call.

Tom

pgermond 05-08-2007 02:16 PM

Thanks Tom - sounds perfect. We just might take you up on your offer if I can't scare up any of the local Nor Cal guys.

scootter 05-09-2007 03:58 PM

Well, it sounds like the south bay group should meet around 9:45am at Starbucks in Milpitas so we can stop and get gas in Walnut creek before meeting at Fry's. Any takers?
Scott

Greg tripp 05-09-2007 06:44 PM

I'll be there.
