I agree with getting all the cars on the track and maybe having a track sampler for those (like me) who are new to the track idea and would like participate in a smaller fashion.

And guys, get your wives comfortable in those cars, my first experience was not being able to reach the pedals and my spouse ehem backseat driving. I did not like driving it. One day he was at work and I went "joy riding." Now the pedals are adjusted and "I try" to control the driver's seat. I am so into the Cobra now that we are talking about building a second.

I think having a smaller version of track day and a lunch for all would be great.

My thought about Track Day is to do it or don't do it. John could organize a 1st-time beginners class, speeds not to exceed 50mph or something. There is really no half-way approach, becasue once you get out there in the novice group, and see how smooth and how much fun it is, people end up going a bit faster than what they intended; so then the SAFETY aspect kicks in and everyone needs helmets and supervision anyhow. The other issue, is the cost is already ultra-fair, and the price would be the same anyhow, so the comments here make me think a 1st-timers run group would be the ticket, and it gets everyone out there together. I'm more in favor of one day for track day, with everyone leaving wanting more rather than getting burned out over two days and breaking there cars and not being able to participate in other functions such as the Saturday drive or car show. Also, many of you might want to consider just how hard autocross is on a car if you drive it hard. Maybe I'm biased, but going slower on a mutli-million dollar track is much more fun than junk pavement and autocross - in my own opinion of course.

John, let's plan to discuss adding a 1st-timers run group for next year. My thought is to increase to a 100 car cap next year, and that will be it. 200 cars at WSCB, 100 at Track Day, and that will be it. You quoted me right "with a focus on quality vs. increase in quantity".

Yes, I totally agree! I like the idea of a 1st timers program and a 100 car cap. We will need to have out sh...t together but I think we can handle it. I would like to really encourage a Track Day BBQ Lunch including all WSCB members. Could really be fun.

Folks,

Track Day is hard enough to organize and pull off without making things more complicated. There is room for improvement and we plan to improve but only on the current basic program. It works.

Track Day should be limited to: tech & mini seminars on Thursday and Track on Friday. We should have one event: road course / instruction & open track.

If we make too much out of track day or try to do multiple autosport events, even I will get tired of it and all of the events will suffer as a result, trust me. I really enjoy the drive, a little slow for me but love going up to Squaw with my daughters and hanging out with everyone. I like doing the multiple events, track-drive-show, and feel they all have equal or proportionate weight. I think it's important to keep this in mind and KISS!

The easiest ones to add are the museum or Virgenia City.

An autocross requires a club (SCCA?) with pylons, a trailer, timing gear, a generator, etc. You're going to need knowledgable folks to staff it (safety stewards, timers, some general type As, etc.).

JMHFO of course. Neat thing is that folks are thinking.

Pete's idea of Playmate car wash (maybe a guy or two for Cindy) is still the bestest idea yet.

The evening social(s). If you're going to do it, might I suggest cold cuts or something (charge for it!)...it's getting tougher to attend those and still get dinner reservations (or maybe get them to open the damn Orosco sp? place up at nite!).

The mini seminars...muy goodo.

One alternative that I did on Thursday was to drive around Lake Tahoe in a clockwise direction. I got to drive on some nice curvy roads, and to me, driving the Cobra is what it's all about. It took a couple of hours to drive.

Virginia City is another option.

The Museum is another option.

About the Friday Night social: I think the "social" would be better off being on Saturday night, as kind of a closing event for the whole Bash. Get the speakers up to talk, everyone can have a few drinks (or not), give out some "recognition" awards (longest Cobra drive to the Bash, longest trailered drive to the Bash, a 'Hard Luck' award, raffle tickets given out for prizes donated by vendors and participants).

Okay.... my $0.02 after following this thread for a while......

Most folks did what they wanted to do on Friday (I know we did), be it track time, drive to the track and watch, cruise the Lake, or Virginia City, etc. Although there was nothing other than track day that was organized, so it was hit-n-miss meeting up with other Cobras.

How 'bout sign-ups for those interested in -
Cruising to the track and observe
Cruising to the track and back through V. City
Cruising over Mt Rose and around the Lake
Girl/Guy car wash
Etc, etc, etc

Just some sort of structure so those that have a common interest can meet up.

Also, I like Edley's idea of some form of closing ceremonies for the Bash on Saturday night... assuming any one is sober at that point :LOL:

Why not turn WSCB into Run-N-Gun for the West Coast, since many will never travel 2,000 miles to run their cars? Three Day Track Event...just a thought.

I also think a cruise around the lake would be cool...gets the wife involved and not spending money. **)

How about a 1st timer run group instead of the 5 lap lunch cruise laps. Stagger lunch one group at a time from 11am - 1PM and keep running. Line everyone up first thing in the morning for the picture and get it out of the way. I think a blue group, red group and 1st timer group would work very well. You could make the first couple of sessions for the first timers follow the instructor, no pass, and control the pace very well. Let the blue group do a orientation session the first time out and then let them go thereafter. Red could be done as this year with instructor cars circulating during their sessions for lead follow instruction as desired.

The museum is a good idea for those who don't want to go out to the track.

Virgina city on Saturday with a lunch all together in one place might be fun.

One day of track time at this kind of function is best. Two days will result in a lot more broken parts, trailered cars, tire swapping etc. etc. etc. One day was prefect. This isn't really a open track weekend, after all, its a fun weekend get together with a track component. Great combination !!!

Foremost thanks to everyone that made this event happen. It was my families first time and we had a blast! People don't always realize the work/commitment envolved to make events happen.

Being a WSCB newbie and not belonging to a group we missed the extra "private" outings. We observed the open track sessions but would have loved to take another small road trip in the Cobra.

Open track driving is not for everyone, but another organized casual road trip would allow another activity. My problem is, I have four other family members that all want seat time, the more driving I can do with a group the better!

How about some real entertainment for Friday evening. I mean we see the car stuff all weekend long, why not bring in an entertainer like a comedian. I think in Reno it should not hard to find any kind. And my car was dirty after the drive.....................bikini car wash!:D

Hey Jeff.....I agree with Edley!! Get your wife in a Cobra of her own!!!! I know how you feel with sharing rides with the family, my kids have to take turns depending on when and where we go. But when it gets hot, cold, sunny, windy.... they all end up in the truck and I am by myself in the car.......the traitors......:LOL: :LOL: Got to love the 15 year old mood swings.

How about a visit to the Top Gun airforce base outside Reno, as mentioned on Friday evening by the gentleman in the back, a former pilot.
