These videos prove a good point but don't hold much validity if they aren't an original car with an original motor. Not that would necessarily change the results....

Tell the guy to take the tennis ball out from underneath the ZR1's gas pedal..

One of the local guys has popped a 10.79 @ 133 with a 100% bone stock ZR1 here running the OEM run craps. He's not a pro driver too. The run was made at MIR and is well documented.

While we're at it, let's put the video up of the stock Neon that beat the new Viper ACR at the Ring..

madmaxx 02-21-2010 05:31 AM

ZR-1 = $120K plus car. 10.79@133 = meeting expectations.

CobraEd 02-21-2010 06:44 AM

Someone in the comments below the video mantioned that the Cobra had an LS3 engine in it. What is the horespower of that ?????

BTW, If you look at the formal specs for a Corvette LS1, they spec its 0 - 60 as 3.4. Hell, my little smallblock Cobra can do that (Drag Radials). I bet most of yours can too. Although once you get rolling, the ZR1 would fly by.

Lots of folks that own Car X want to think that one encounter proves that all versions of Car X are better than all versions of Car Y regardless of the drivers, track or conditions. In reality, each encounter is unique. There are circumstances where Car X will excel and other circumstances where Car Y will win. For example, I've been on one track when my Cobra was clearly faster than a C5 Z06. Yet on another track I couldn't keep up, much less catch one. Each car, driver and situation is unique.

True words...

I remember the SCCA event in Ohio when the LCS was going on. Everyone was trashing the course, and then the last guy of the day in a Mazda 3 automatic comes in and almost gets fastest time of the day.

Just think how much further ahead the Cobra would of been with a Ford engine in it!!!

I think that the LS3 starts out at around 430 HP at the crank. The difference in weight between the two cars is huge.

" LMR claims to have the worlds fastest Corvette ZR1. With their added Reaper package the car dyno'd an amazing 752 rwhp and 787 rwtq at only 14 psi. This was all done with the stock supercharger and 93 octane fuel. The ZR1 can a best time at 9.93@140mph making it one of the quickest ZR1s to date. These numbers where achieved with the added boost, bigger cam and high flowing heads. "

A friend of mine let me take a run in his ZR1, yeah he's lost his mind but any way, when I down shifted to 3rd at about 80mph then run up to the rev limiter it was so fast it was hard to hang on to. It ran up to about 160 so fast it would make your head spin! I know our cobra's are fast but that car is fast with really good manners!

gsharapa 02-21-2010 02:25 PM

Take a ride in Ford GT with the bigger Whipple on it......now that's fast as the power gets to the ground!

What DA? 1800ft below sea level like the Z06 that has plauged the forums for years that went 10.9? One or two guys make a stellar pass when ice is about to form with a big number on the barometer and then it's those cars do for the end of time.

The reality of it is anything over a 400 wheel HP in a 2400lb Cobra is going to beat the ZR1 to 100 mph.

...assuming it has the capability to put the power down. My experience, that's where most Cobras are lacking. I'm running M/T drag radials to help compensate with mine.

Actually, As the ZR1's RWHP tends to be around 565 @3300 lbs = 5.84lb per HP. The 2400lb, 400 rwhp Cobra is a staight up 6lbs per HP. That alone doesn't substantiate your claim...

The ZR1/Z06 DAs were terrific. The east coast tracks (especially around the DC area) have the notoriety for great DAs, hook and times. Admittedly, with most tracks those times won't be replicated. You always "brag" about your best run, never the mediocre ones..;) The ZR1's 10.79 was run by one of our local boys. I don't care what the DAs are, that's pretty darn fast for a stock vehicle w/ OEM run flats..

10.79 is pretty fast. It's just a little slower than I ran starting from a 1000 rpm idle in my Cobra with worse air. I don't want to sound like a brager. I just like this stuff for fun.

Not to be an adrenaline dork or have a little fella complex, but I'm dead certain on this topic. In fact I even like Corvettes. I've owned 1969 427 Corvette, 1976 Corvette and a 2003 Z06. My father has had 24 Corvettes.

I guess we could play with calculators and drool over magazine articles, but in the real world it's real. Other than correcting times to sea level it's hard to say with every circumstance, but given the same conditions for one car and the Cobra I've driven while between 403 to 475 rear wheel HP the highest HP Corvette I've beat from a light was a C5 stroked twin turbo with a wet shot on drag radials. He's gone 10.4 @ 147 at the drag strip and had right around 1000 HP. I also beat a 1500 HP twin turbo Viper at the drag strip while he was on street tires that trapped 152 mph for his pass behind me. I know both those guys well. Other than that the closest race I've had was a GSXR 1000 from about 20 MPH to 140 mph. He was geared for low end, power commander computer, intake and exhaust with a 200 lb rider(big guy, but dead nuts even). Other Cobra Kills, all people I know, have taken down 780 HP Porsche GT2 from roll repeatedly to 120 mph or so, Ferrari Enzo which is comical compared to the Cobra at lower speeds, Porsche GT also comical, Modified C6 Z06 with heads and exhaust, drag radial(same day at drag strip), modified 640 HP Ford GT(beat badly three times from roll), and with absolute comical kills winning against just about anything stock from standing start or low speed roll ons.

SP01715 02-25-2010 08:40 AM

Greg, The best runs I have had were also against sport bikes. I had an R1 give me a pretty good run, although I was able to pull him a little. I owned a GSXR with some significant mods running high 10's, but keeping the front end down on launch was worse than trying to get traction in my SPF.
