Default Ford Crate 392 Stroker GT40 Heads Actual HP Documented in Magazine Articles

For those of you who have the Ford Racing Performance Parts 392 crate engine that is rated at 430 hp and 450 lbs/ft of torque, you should know what your engine is actually capable of with a proper tune in stock form and then also with a few modifications. Below is a collection of independent magazine articles (ten total) all of which have the 392 in pure stock form dyno'd between 446hp and 465hp. With a head, cam and carb swap, over 530hp is possible.
Not a single publication I can find even came close to rating it at "only" 430hp. Clearly Ford, as one article points out, has a "conservative rating strategy". You should be getting 370 to 395 RWHP "out of the box". Variables in HP for the long block set up (other than weather) include choice engine oil, exaust, tuning, jetting, chokeblade, airfilter and other controllable factors without swapping any parts. If your not getting that kind of power, find another mechanic. If any of you have more magazine articles, please post, I'd love to read them.

If this is true, then why were you running 16 sec. quarters at Byron?.......

Pete,
I left the door open to that! I finally have it tuned in, the drag radials are on order. I hope I can keep up with the revamped big block you are having done this winter. Any numbers yet on the dyno?

Engines not done yet, so no dyno.
Want to guess what it'll be?
We did AFR225 heads, 429 cid, solid roller cam, raised cr to 10.8:1, added a K&N 14x2 with an Xtreme lid, custom 1 7/8 to 2" stepped headers and the sidepipes now have a merge collector and 3" chambered muffler. If all of this works well together, the numbers should be good! (started at 365 rwhp)
I also had the TKO600 modified so that it'll shift at >7K rpm now. (it was not shifting above 6K at Byron)
Pete
