May 21 - Poker Run

Please save the Date Saturday May 21, 2011, (rain date on the 22nd) for the Route 66 Poker Run to Pontiac, IL. Additional details will follow, but lets see how many have this date open, please respond on this site if you intend to run. I made a trial run today which took about 2.5 hours (one way), started in Plainfield, with a pack of cobras it may take a little longer. Just need to confim a few things and find a good spot to have lunch. Thinking of leaving by 9:00, breakfast if needed will be at 8AM, I'll find a spot and post later in this thread. Lets hope the weather improves, it was a bit chilly today.

What do members think about inviting other hot rodders to join in on the run, or should we keep it to cobras?

Poker run

Sure why not invite some others?

Wolfie 05-02-2011 07:03 PM

I'm in if my car is running by then. I'd hate to have to use a "sid" seat!

Renlady 05-10-2011 06:29 PM

I'll make it, especially if I can make it back to Homewood by 3 for a class.

We need to hear from more participents, if this poker run is going to be successful or worth running. I will be happy to change the date if this will add to the number of participents. I also hear we have a conflict with another event on the same day :(, so please respond as soon as possible, I will make the call by this weekend if the event is on or off.

The alternative is to run the route (with fewer participents) with out it being a true poker run, no cards, games or prizes, just a nice drive along Historic Route 66 to Pontiac.

Hey remeber Bob and Deb?
I extended the invite to them as well.
they may come (with the other C car)

I'll attend but work until 9:00AM on Saturday but can meet everyone in route.

pilotdad13 05-16-2011 07:21 PM

Well folks the weather for this coming weekend doesn't look very pomissing :(, but we have a total of eight possible participents, not the best showing for a club event, three of which may not have their cars running, including myself, and one late comer due to work schedule.
I think it might be best to reschedule the Poker Run until a later date when the weather improves and more cars are available to join in. I would really like to have more interest with more cars to make a Windy City Cobra Club statement.
Although should anyone still want to try to make the run this Saturday, I will gladly meet them at the Romeoville, Cracker Barrel at route 55 and Weber Rd. We could meet between 8:00 and 9AM for breakfast and plan on leaving no later than 9:30, if the weather is not favorable and we change our minds, we can all go home with a full tummy.:)

Weather looks tough so far. I'll keep watching it.

Sorry I am moving the weekend of the 21st. But I would definitely be interested in a later date

Renlady 05-17-2011 06:46 PM

I would be willing to come out for breakfast and a drive, even if the poker run doesn't go. After all, it could be like last year when the clouds dissolved and it was a beautiful day.

Renlady 05-19-2011 04:08 PM

looks like weather.com has lowered the chance of rain to 20% and upped the temp to 82 for Pontiac tomorrow. are we going?

pilotdad13 05-19-2011 08:48 PM

I'm still planning on being at the Cracker Barrel Rest. around 8AM, we'll see who shows and what the weather looks like and go from there. See you Saturday?

Fred

Renlady 05-20-2011 08:12 AM

I'll be helping Ed switch cars around so he can work on the truck in the garage, then I'll head over to the Cracker Barrel. Should be able to get there around 8 with no problem.

Traffic on I-80

FYI, I-80 eastbound has been a slug. Construction I guess. I saw it at a crawl at the I-55 intersection on Monday and Tuesday. Don't know if it's improved any since then.
I will make breakfast at Cracker. Not sure if I can do the run (twist my arm). Out of town family coming in.

pilotdad13 05-20-2011 04:18 PM

Thanks for the heads up, hoping saturday wouldn't be as busy, and I might have an alternative route. Not to sure if the weather will cooperate, we'll see in the morning.
