places to see in chicago

I have to be in Chicago area for a week -- anything to see Cobra related? Good car museums? thanks peter

Blas 01-17-2007 05:42 AM

Volo Auto Museum.....Volo, Illinois...
COLD here now so come prepared...

Lowell W 01-17-2007 06:05 AM

Well, how about Ralph's new lift? ;)

A little less car-intensive but interesting nevertheless: the Field Museum, which has, among other things, the lions which are depicted in the movie, "Ghost in the Darkness"; the Museum of Science and Industry, which has, or used to have, anyway, Chris Karamesines' first 200MPH ChiZler and Art Arfons' Green Monster; and the Adler planetarium.

Bears on Sunday.............

Jerry Clayton 01-17-2007 07:53 AM

The Museum of Science and Industry also has the Blue Flame land speed record car, and an United Airlines Boeing 727 hanging from the ceiling. They also have pilots that flew the aircraft on duty everyday to answer questions--I was going to sign up to help but the new uniform I bought when in B777 school must of been made outta imported fabric as it is too tight around the middle now---and I think someone told them that I would probably be hanging around the cars most of the time---

Also they have a captured German Submarine

Forget about the cars!

“Hagen’s” for fried shrimp….5635 w. Montrose
“Due” for Pizza….619 N. Wabash
“Portillo’s” for Italian beef sandwiches.

Geez, I really miss that stuff.

Jerry Clayton 01-17-2007 10:30 AM

Also the musem has an Appollo space craft and an Omni-max theater

D&M always has some fun (variety of) stuff in their show room. (D&M Motorsports on North Avenue in Glen Ellyn)
Also depends on when you're going to be here:
World of Wheels - Chicago January 26-28, 2007 McCormick Place
2007 Chicago Auto Show 99th Edition February 9-18,2007 McCormick Place
Dare I say: Chevy Vettefest March 3-4, 2007

CHRIS DAMSCH 01-17-2007 05:04 PM

We could always have a snake and eggs if you're here on a weekend.

You could even see Wolfie and Ralphie in their leiderhosen or pantyhosen.:D

RedSnake351 01-18-2007 11:46 PM

When Will You Be Here?

And don't forget the "Big Drag Racing Show And Swap Meet" this weekend in Schaumburg!

There used to be a AMG dealer in Dowers Grove. Are there any vintage car dealers? Older collectable cars? Porsches? Vettes? other? thanks

Blas 01-19-2007 05:29 AM

Volo Auto Museum.....Volo, Illinois...

Jerry Clayton 01-19-2007 07:03 AM

BulletBobBrown has a few older collectable cars for sale several 06 and 07 Chevs of all models--a couple red and yellow c6s, suvs and even a mini van or two

WINDY CITY MUSCLE CARS off of Route 12 in Lake Zurich, Il
Mostly Muscle cars not Porsches...

Blas 01-19-2007 04:48 PM

How about that place you guys frequent in Algonquin?

TerrysSPF 01-19-2007 05:33 PM

As speed said earlier, it depends on when you'll be here. He mentioned the best car related items that are coming up, and Volo has also been mentioned. I'm sure the AMG dealer is gone from Glen Ellyn - if a company closes and property becomes available in the 'burbs, you can bet someone is going to build on it. Hummmmm.........too cold to go out to Rt.66 for any fun..........can't think of anything else "car related" unless you simply want to visit car dealerships (plenty of those!). Someone mentioned D&M in Glen Ellyn, but there is another D&M (not related) on Ogden Ave that usually has a nice crop of older auto's - mostly Vette's though.
While you're here, don't forget to visit a few quality restaurants. Some nice places have already been mentioned, but Sullivan's and Rose Buds are 2 of my personal favorites. If you're out in Bolingbrook head to Brandmour's for a 28oz Porterhouse (ask for Sheila). In Oak Brook, head to Magnum's or The Club House. St. Charles has the best burger / fries I've ever had at The Filling Station............I could go on, but I'm getting too hungry.

Blas, is that the place where Marty raves about the "Hummers?"
If he's into Cobras, he probably won't be interested in THAT kind of vehicle. %/
