Club Event Meeting Nov 17th
Please mark your calendars for November 17th. It is important that all members attend to determine the direction of the next Event Schedule. I know it sounds cliche, but you get what you put into it. There are a lot of new ideas that we really need a majority to consider. I will put out an agenda in the next several days that you can print, add your own ideas to, etc. It will also give you a chance to choose an event or S&E that you would like to sponsor.
The place is not confirmed, but will probably be at Mr. Beef on Elmhurst just north of Algonquin (calm down Marty) and the time will be around noon so come hungry for lunch. |
Sorry Jeff, I will not be able to attend as I will be out of town that week.
|
Arcenio, I'll sign you up to run a few events...
Or you choose one early to avoid the toughest ones at the end.... |
Other than run a Girl Scout event (like some people) unless the girl scout are all 21 to 24 years of age. Then I volunteer for that one.
|

Event calender for 08
Jeffko I was talking to John Spina last night, I am asking that you could put the Run&Gun on the event calender for next year. The dates are Oct 8-11 or 9-12 of that week. Wendsday is a test and tune with a couple of guys who are retireed road course specialist and give instructions about driving, setup of cars, braking, gears to be in. They will show you the line in a control speed,or even ride with you. We have an Amatuer classes now for street tire and different motor sizes. So you are running against your own in a class. We had 55 car this year, the weather was super, 71 degrees weds, 68 thursday, friday, and sat morning, started to rain around 1:00pm sat.We where done with all the racing and everybody was on the way home by 2:00pm. There is 3 days of road racing. some of the guys have run 300 miles in the 3 days. There are 4 different classes Manufacturer,Pros, Prep, and Street. We break these classes down to motor size, power adders, and tire wear specs. The cars are all safety teched for your safety, The only main rule is a driving helmet with a Nomex lining and not a MOTOR CYCLE helmet. A driving jacket is choice, but hope even the amatuers would get them for protection. There was some problems in the pass that have been looked at and fixed. He now rent transpoders for road racing and have 50 for the cars to start and can get more if needed. The times are done by computor and not stop watches anymore. SCCA sets up a great auto course which is more on driving of the car and not speed or power. The course is a 1-2 gear running. Top speed is about 40 mph, feels like you are going 80. Large open area with only cones to hit if you opps. You get to walk the course before racing it. Drag racing speaks for itself. John S. can fill you in on this better than me. We have a couple of hotels we reserve rooms in. There is a dinner Friday night and the awards for autocross and road course are handed out. This cuts down the time on Sat for all the awards having to be handed out when people want to get on the road to go home. The price of the event covers you and a mechanic, wife, girlfriend, or player to be named later.:) Hope maybe the Windy City Cobra club could come on down this coming year. The wifes can go shopping in St Lious which is 5 miles away. Holiday inn is 10 miles away with a pool and spa. Porter house restaurat is right in the hotel. Top of the line steaks from KC. A people addictude problem has been also fixed, the ones now coming are a great group that will help you if the car breaks, and info needed, make runs to speed shop if a part breaks, etc. The event is about having fun with your car in a safe and friend place, There are also cocktails after hours if you like with a gas power blender putting on a show. Security is at the track and hotel 24 hours a day. %/ I hope your club may be interested in coming. I am tryed to talk John S. out of retirement and to retake his crown for top dog back. Rick Lake

Rick, thanks for getting us back on track (literally). I would be glad to put it before the club with my own interest in the event. I have printed your info (thanks very much) and will use it at the meeting.
|
With regard to my conversation with Rick, it would be very interesting and fun to have several of us involved in this event. I went to the Run And Gun events in 1996 and 1998 and enjoyed both immensely. Whoa, that puts the real age on my car...The wear and tear on the brakes and tires was pretty considerable, but exponential with the fun factor. Any of us who get into the meat and potatoes of our cars (Gary, Fred, nudge, wink) will no doubt enjoy this event greatly. And with the newly revised rules and regulations, it can really be a competitive thing.
Since we have almost a year to plan, this could be a significant event for us. |

Well there you have it. The list is already starting to expand.
This could work! |
Thanks Guys
Jeffko Sorry, there a 5 classes, I forgot the amatuers race in there own class. They also don't race with the pros or other classes. 20 minute time on the track for each session. You can run at your own comfortable speeds on the track. If a class gets to big, they will split them into 2 sessions with equal time of 20 minutes each. By the end of the day nobody is racing. Everybody is worn out. Kit Car comes to the track and trys to get everycar in the mag with 1 picture. There is a people choice award and editor award also.If there is any question you have, e-mail me or go onto the Run&gun forum here at CC. Someone will get you the answers quickly. Hope to see some new faces next year for a great time. Rick L.
