"It's an early list and some of it may change. It’s not meant to list every possible option, that there are other groups out there, it’s simply a list compiled from information available on the web."

For those of you fence sitters.
Here is a list of some people that have shown some interest in putting their cobra or other car on the track. You will not be alone thats for sure!!! Rich S. Sid S. Bob M. Mike M Tim G. Scott J Mark T. Fred M. Arcenio S. Chris D. Wolf D. Jeff K. David M Michelle M Hands sweating yet? SID **):D:D:D |
Sid: I took another step closer, I have my car number for the season, real easy to do. Now I have to go out and buy the numbered "gumballs". I wish my suspension parts would show up so I can get that part done as well. You'll have fun at the driver's school - vendors sometimes show up so let me know if they have a sale on helmets. I need to upgrade to a higher level Snell helmet for this season.

Tim,
I found out from Mr. Shelby all you need to do is send your helmet into Bell or whoever and have them recertify it. Probably cheaper. Sid |
I suspect that might not be the case with me since I have a "M" in front of the Snell rating - it's a motorcycle helmet.
tim |
Can they recertify mine it has a "C" on it,, it think that it is a baseball helmet?
Sid help me out!!! |
A motorocycle helmet is not fire rated. It won't resist fire. It's not required of an mc helmet because you don't get trapped "inside" in a motorcycle accident like you can in an auto accident.
Motorcycle helmets are usually okay with most groups for "hot laps," HPDE, Driver's School, Time Trial, etc... as long as they are current rating, i.e. not too old. But mc helmets are not approved for wheel to wheel racing. Bottom line is that you need to check with the organization with which you're planning on participating. (Fire rating means a helmet or other protective article of clothing is made from materials that resist heat and open fire for a minimum number of seconds to help protect you and give you time to get out, or be pulled out, of the vehicle. A higher number means longer protection, in seconds.) Happy motoring! |
Most track days I am part of require the "SA" label. We spend all this money on our cars and it suprises me that so many won't take a little more and get a good helmet and fire suit. I personally don't think it is about what the rules will allow but what I am comfortable with.

Other track events are the Alpha Club at Blackhawk July 7th and Road America October 11 & 12.
|
Sounds like fun, waiting for a mid-east coast event.
|
I agree with dlempe - must haves: safe helmet, a driving suit, some decent shoes and a good pair of driving gloves (I know the car builder).

Chicago Auto Show. Subaru WRX STi is one sweet little car. I also saw the Skyline GT-R. WOW!
Then there was the one. Viper ACR. I'm in love. If nobody was looking I would have mounted that car in a very inappropriate manner. I know, I know, Shelby saw her first...blah blah blah... Autoblog Come on Mother nature! I think we have been grounded long enough! Can we go out and play? PLEASE!!! Pretty Please!!!:CRY::CRY::CRY::CRY: Chicago weather today: 6F but feels like -9F. Chris is outside stomping his feet like Danica Patrick... |

Ditto on the helmet. Bell Helmets Cheapest one i found was the M2. Looking at their seats also. Sid |
Sid: I am assuming you are attending the NSSCC driving school, once you graduate, you apply on their website for a permanent number. They even have a local supplier that will make up your hood/trunk/doors vinyl decals. I am looking at the Pyrotec helmets since they have the SA2005 cert. and have graffics (all for under $300). I also saw some mention of arm restraints needed for our cars, do you have any experience with them? They are relatively cheap and look like they attach to the 5-point harness. Suspension parts got shipped today.

Nice pricing! I bought a bell since it had a larger opening for people with glasses. Same one I use at CIR.
After the 29th I was thinking about having a racing get together. Maybe April sometime. You know just to hang out and really get things moving in the right direction. |

Video upper left hand side. Racing porn. If this doesn't get you motivated for this season nothing will. Hands sweating yet? I'll see you guys on Saturday! Remember we got Indoor Driving School! Sid |
MAY 24-25th I will be attending the Midwestern Council's High Speed Autocross in the Mazda.
http://www.mcscc.org/events.php http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/...sevent_id=8694 Anybody interested? I would consider this a NON-WCCC event since the cobra will not be present. |
Sid is this a Blackhawk event and no Cobra?
|
Good morning Bob,
yeah. I'm going to drive the Mazda up there. No cobra for this event. I'll probably do the MVP event in the cobra. Sid |
