Not a bad thought. My car can spin the tires in reverse.

Chris... you'd better get a bigger rear view mirror!

Jim, ARe you talking about the heat shield for the clutch and brake master cyl.? I have one some where in my garage. You can use it to fab one for your car if you want. Sid |
Sid thanks! - by the way - love the idea for street tire champ at Byron
Sid,
:confused:car tuned last fall and picked up substantial power. I like the street tire idea. It has always seemed to me that slicks don't make sense. If your at a stop light race and can't get traction, you can't got home at get slicks and come back. It has to work on the street. Jim |

Sid,
Sorry reposting - not sure what happened on the last one. You are a generous man, but I fabricated one over the weekend. And yes, it was for the master. I am re-routing the lines over the footbox on Tuesday and have already wrapped the line in heat resistant foam as well. I will bolt on the heat shield as soon as I move the line. I am also going to wrap the master cylinder with the same wrap that people use on the headers to keep the metal unit cool. Hopefully - that should solve the problem. I want to be ready for Byron by May 9th. I had the car tuned last fall and picked up substantial power. I like the street tire idea. It has always seemed to me that slicks don't make sense. Street Tire competition
Snake Oil,
Can't talk smack, never done this before, but plan on being there. Someone has to make sure Sid washes his car before he comes. I have a "medium block", so I plan on taking the first place trophy for the street tire competition. Any takers? Jim |
I'd like to take a cruies saturday morning to test the new clutch!
|
Wolfie - question for you
I see you have a 392 as well, Is it a Ford crate with 430hp? If so, what did you run last year in the 1/4? Trying to get some sort of an idea what I will do.
Jim |
I don't think Wolfie has managed a full pass for a while. Too much power for the axles.
|
Ya eh, last year sucked for me at the strip. Jimbo my car runs in the mid 12's without any problem. My best time ever was 12.1 or something in the vicinity.
I had broken a halfshaft two years in a row. I think maybe that darn sliping clutch made me drive the car harder than it was intended for! This year I think that I will baby it down the track. I don't have the need or urge or desire to break into the11's club. But then a trophy would be kind of cool to have!http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...olfglasses.JPG |
Wow 12.1 with a 392CI, nice driving.
I am hoping for mid to high 12's first time out. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the halfshaft. Not sure if I will have a chance at 11's, but I'd trade a halfshaft for it one time! I have Goodyear Eagle F1's and I can't get the launch down yet and still miss 3rd sometimes, I just got the car last fall and didn't have much time in it before it got too cold and those tires do not hook up at all when cold. Looking forward to it.

Jim I think that we all have missed third gear at times. Just make sure that you don't accidently thow it back into first!!
|
Jimbo,
I had a 396w in my car at one time. I was able to muster 11.7's after a little practice. I think the crate motors have the same power I had. I think I ran 12.0 on street tires. The key is to get your 60' times down. I was able to get 1.67 to 1.75 on the crappy bfg radial t/a's. With the drag radials, I can get consistent 1.50-1.57's. The tires you're running should be able to get better than my radial t/a's. I think Wolfie will get that thing into the 11's on his street tires. |
Plan to get the cob webs out of the pipes tomorrow and friday.
|
Sid, what did you store in your pipes?
|
11's???
Chris/Wolfie,
We will see. If I can get a few good runs in, I guess anything is possible. I will keep my expectations low and hope for 12's my first time. |
Thinking about bringing a grill to the track on that day. That way we can just "chill a bit between the runs. What do you think?
Sten |
great idea Sten. I always get so hyper when I'm there. Great drive home after breakfast today.
|
Chillin and grillin
That's what the consecion stand is for BUT, if you feel like cooking,
Great! Are you racing? If so then who's watching the grill?:JEKYLHYDE |
