Buddy tack welded the flanges and side mounting tabs for the side pipes. We need to finish TIG welding them and then it's off to Motor Sports Powder Coating for ceramic coating.

Welding on roll bar is finished thanks to Buddy Neely. The only thing left is to grind the welds smooth so that the roll bar can be powder coated.

The 390 FE (formerly owned by Bob Brown) was removed from the frame so that all of the mounts (engine, roll bar, shoulder harness, oil filter, etc.) could be final welded and the frame painted. The oil dipstick tube was relocated to the outside of the lower alternator bolt.

The frame was mounted to a rotisserie to make welding and painting easier. Buddy's garage has everything!

We finished welding on the frame and gave it its first coat of black paint. Half the paint went on the frame, 1/4 of it went on the drop cloth, and the other 1/4 went on Buddy and myself. I had to take a shower in paint thinner!

Original 60's screens
Was lucky to find these original side mount screens. These were the type used in the 60's which differ by full winding of the screen versus tack weld to the ring and no pop snaps, they mount via SS side brackets and funky knobs.

Arntz / Butler door
This is the final version of the Arntz / Butler door. The inner and outer fibreglass panels conceal a 2 x 4 x 0.120 wall steel tube for crash protection and rigidity. A VW door latch, striker and handle let you in and out. A plate is welded on the front, to which the hinges bolt and adjust. The hinges are press formed from 1.5 x 0.5 solid steel bar and swing on delrin bushes. Unique to the Arntz Type 4 are the Mercedes door pin and socket (just above the latch) that solidly ties the door to the rest of the cage surrounding the passenger compartment.

Extractors_for_nearside_bank_Small_
Just finished welding them up. They have to be painted yet. Now the fun starts making the offside extractors as this is where the steering column is.
