Jim O'Connor

Ford borrowed my Mustang for some publicity shots with Jim O'Connor, who was a VP at Ford, and President of Ford Division at the time.

FIA_Suitcase_Study1

It’s documented that (2) AC factory cars were prepared with FIA suitcase "dimples" (See Photos). The second modification was to enlarge the trunk base to allow the suitcase to fit upright (vertical) and further down into the trunk as shown. If you look closely at the photo you can see the suitcase also fit horizontal and was held in place with a “bungee cord”. You can also see the bolts protruding out the bottom of the suitcase which originally held the suitcase upright. I think this also explains why some of the FIA cars had dimples while others didn’t.

As for the actual size of the suitcase – FIA Historic Racing Championships - Appendix J. Both 1964 and 1965.

State:

“270 - Luggage trunk
A covered space being an integral part of the coachwork but outside of the space occupied by the front seats, large enough to receive a trunk of
65 cm X 40 cm X 20 cm. minimum, besides the spare wheel, tools or the folded hood, shall be provided, excluding the spare wheel, tools or removed canopy.”

BDS sticker on non-Cobra screwdriver

The BDS sticker is flat on this style of screwdriver from 1963, so much easier to copy.

TDC fixture used to support dial indicator

I sold my 05 Copperhead Viper and Bought This 09. It has over 600HP and is way faster that ANY Cobra I have ever owned - AND HAS AIR CONDITIONING!

Notching a Weiand Stealth manifold like Edelbrock Air-Gap

My "home made" Bridgeport Mill...well, have a milling bit anyway...took a while to figure out how to feed the work so the bit wouldn't chatter. First pass the bottom was uneven. Second pass rigged up a better support and got the notch parallel to the carb pad.

Shelby Show 5/11/13

"Honey, yes, I need 2 gallons of distilled water and a bunch of microfiber cloths".

I crept at a snail's pace in a long line of Shelby's latest Mustangs for almost 30 minutes and it was starting to get hot. They finally let me in. I got out, stretched and poof! The green steam show. Luckily the hood was down because people could have been burned and the Tiger next to me wouldn't have been happy. Coolant shot out of the hood scoop like a toddler sneezing through his nose. Nothing some water and a 5/16" wrench couldn't fix but what a mess.

Thanks for the help, Dean! (RedBarchetta)
Woudn't have been the same without 'cooler heads' (pun intended) prevailing!

Colo. burning 2013

The South Fork fire. We had just come through South Fork and Creede. A couple hours after this was taken the highway was closed and the towns evacuated. The picture doesn’t do it justice, it looked like a volcano.

Have been told this is 2601. Sorry the quality is rough, and furthermore the censored data. This was actually sent to me via email from a collector.

Hemmings Motor News, January 1980

This is 2286 again. Mr. Soprano, owner of Motor Classics, acquired the car around Aug/Sep/Oct 1979 for a then bargain (though certainly an outrageous sum of money for the time) price, which was somewhere around $80k to $90k. Was probably already a 6-figure car by late 1978.

Sources indicate that he had the car up for sale for awhile. He never disclosed his price in print, but revealed it to serious inquirers. From Nov 79 thru Mid 80 the price was $150k.

The car wasn't sold until 1982, and it is likely that the price paid was a good deal more than what he had been asking 2 years prior.

Hemmings Motor News, June 1981

Car was being offered for $165k at some point in 1979, more than what a Daytona would go for then. Probably the weirdest cobra ever made.
