Fuel mileage?
Well, I finally checked my fuel mileage after 2900 mi and I'm getting 21.7 mpg. Combination of freeway, mountain and backroads. Stock 89 5.0 EFI w/3.55 rearend. Is this about average for my setup? Thanks,Jim.

Wow, that sounds great. You can't be racing around much to get that kind of mileage. Have you checked your odometer with the mile markers on the freeway? Not all freeways have them so maybe not so easy in CA.

I believe your number. With easy driving and a combination of city and highway I get low 15s on a regular basis. 447 FE, TKO and 3.54 rear.

You have a 0.62 overdrive fifth, don't you Jim? That would help on the freeway cruising.
Cheers,

Who buys this car for Fuel mileage? Seriously I was exited when I got 12 on the freeway in 5th at 70 mph. Around town about 5 or 6 but the smile factor is worth much more than the mileage

Yes, my 5th is .62 overdrive, so since any longer distance driving in So. Calif involves lots of freeway travel, I guess 21.7 mpg is about right.

I feel really fortunate when I get 8 to 10 mpg.
Usually hovers around 6.
429 with an automatic. Mostly around town or short stretch's on the freeway.
Seems like I can watch the gas guage move to the left very quickly.
Guess I enjoy the car to much to be worried about the mileage.
Always a fun ride.

The stock gas mileage for 1969 Mach1 428CJ was about 11 -13 mpg. Loose 1200 lbs (cobra) in stock tune it should get it maybe 5% better ?
I don't know larger Fe's have a hard time passing the gas pump.
Just thinking out loud....

I seem to get about 10 mpg on my 427 SO. It has 2 710's and the 4 spd top
loader with the 3.54 so I am not complaining. Glad I have the 42 gallon tank
because there is no gas gage so I keep rough track with the odometer, so far that has worked just fine.

Mine averaged 8.5 MPG when we took it on vacation. That's the only time I have ever checked it. And the only reason I did then was because I recorded the mileage when I left home and returned. And I had all the gas slips so I could add up how much it used.
As the saying goes, your mileage may vary.

Greetings from Arizona
Mike P, What are you running for rear gears and what transmission?
I'm running 429, C6, with 3:05's, 295/50r15's, Have not driven on freeway yet, but around town at about 45/50 mph is about 2500 rpm's Its seems like it wants $20.00 everytime it comes out of the driveway. And R Foot doesn't seem to know where to stop. I'll should be taking it to Phoenix next week for Goodguys to put in car corral, so we'll see how it likes higher speeds. Jay

We use to say if you were lucky, that a Ford pickup with 460 got 10 mpg in town, 10 mpg hiway, and 10 mpg parked! j

10 MPG highway. Speed costs money... How fast do you want to go?
The guy at the local Sunoco loves me.
