$13.75 Million with auction fees. I guessed $5-10 Million. No bargain IMO. And not even close to the big "Ferrari money" either.

But it still is the highest price ever for an American car. I think the Previous high was $11,338,000.00 million for a GT 40. So I says, "Not Bad" for the chicken farmer!

Does anyone remember the number they used on the tour for what CS was offered from a private buyer? I recall hearing 25M.

I can confirm that some 12-14 years ago, CS did indeed turn down a cash offer of $25M for the car from "an overseas buyer".
At this time, CSX2000 is the highest selling small block Cobra in the world. However, don't look at it as a plus, as the secondary market for these cars has taken a hit in the last 15 months, and I suspect only cars with "ownership or race history" will be maintaining their value. All other owners may have missed the peak of the selling market.
Just my two cents worth.

Cool.
Maybe now the time is right to make my move on a CSX3 for a cool $600k

I seem to recall "Denny" saying $26M on our tour in February 2014, but it may well have been $25M.

I don't think the market is ready for that big a correction
But a correction has indeed occurred recently

Current, original, or one of the many other colours it was painted when Carroll Shelby was having it reviewed by the various automotive journalists?

One of the many urban legends that won't die.
The car was first presented in bare aluminum, then painted yellow. It made the show circuit in yellow. It was then painted blue. It stayed blue until it was recently repainted the same blue.
This was explained in Rinsey Mills autobiography of Carroll Shelby.

IF it's an urban legend it was still being told by the tour guides at the Shelby Heritage Center in Las Vegas as late as 2014. The same story is also told in the Sotheby's promo for the auction: " CSX 2000 played a multitude of roles during its early days. As the only one of its kind, it was not only used in testing and development, but also driven by the motoring press, and shown in cities across the U.S. to drum up interest and sales for the fledgling company, Shelby American, Inc. During this time, thanks to clever marketing, Shelby also convinced the public that Cobra production was in full swing; the car was repainted a different color for almost every appearance to give the impression that Shelby had more than one car in their inventory. In reality, it remained the first and only Cobra for seven months." https://www.rmsothebys.com/en/home/m...details/380798

You're correct that RM and the "historian" at Shelby American in Las Vegas still tell the 'story'.
Even Arron Shelby (grandson) somewhat related the story just before the auction.
Do a search of CSX2000 paint on Google and you'll see photos, I believe at SEMA, that shows chipped blue paint that exposes the original yellow paint.
Watch the YouTube video of Mills with Leno where it's discussed.
I'd like to see one photo of CSX2000 in any other color than yellow or blue. 😉😊

There was a close up photo of the chipped area on CSX2000 in the RM online catalog. I will try to post the photo later when I have access to my other files. LOL, maybe the blue can be removed to reveal the yellow?!

Bare aluminum is a color or at least that's what I keep telling people that gather around my Kirkham.

"That's not to say it was pampered, though. In a tale that is now legendary, Shelby pulled a little scam on the car magazines that tested this car, including Road & Track. After the Cobra was made public, CSX 2000 was sent out to every major car magazine for testing. But Shelby, wanting it to seem like he'd already built a fleet of Cobras, had the car repainted a different color before each magazine test. The magazines each thought they'd gotten a different car, and Shelby's legend was sealed." Listening to Jim King, Shelby American Historian, the car was painted several different colors including yellow, red, blue, white, green, and gold. "What ever was going to look good on the magazine cover".

There may be some urban legend in how many times it was repainted, but the Shelby keepers deny it was "repainted recently" and that the tour guide that was saying so recently has been corrected.

King is the "historian" I referenced that is continuing to tell a "tale"

Since I was a kid, I've heard the stories of CSX 2000 being painted multiple colors, but have never seen a photo of it being painted anything other than blue or yellow.
