Yes, welding blanket is the way to go. I installed mine with snaps, but you wouldn't even have to do that. Just roll it up and stuff it between the seat and the door sill and it's like it's not even there. Even when the pipes are at their hottest, you can't feel even a little bit of warmth through the blanket. I only use it when I have a passenger that I think might not be able to clear the pipe when getting in or out.
