Default Wittman on Wednesday?

Update...
Previously...
I am going to Wittman on wednesday(5/31/06) to see Bruce (bruce@mrcarb.com) about a slightly larger carb. for the Coupe. I was thinking that since he is only a few miles from Speedworld (www.speedworldmotorplex.com) in Wittman, I might try to take the Coupe through the lights a few times at their Wednesday Night Drags if the car will pass the tech. inspection. Is anyone else interested in going, it would be nice to have some extra support in case I do something bad and break the car. I will be driving the car to Wittman and back from Chandler so I will have to take it easy but I hope to get some staging experience and a baseline time before we start changing things on the car.
Thursday...6-1-06
After spending a few hours with Bruce and checking out the carb. on my coupe, Bruce decided to join me at Speedworld so he could see the car in action. I was fortunate in that there were very few cars there at 6pm and they were pretty liberal with tech inspection. They required I wear a helmet. Matt V. had helped me install the side windows tuesday night, so I was allowed to run, and it was a blast.
The last time I ran at a dragstrip was 1972, so it's been a while.
The 1st 2 runs was with the rev. limiter set at 5800.
Reaction...1.001
I1...2.003
I2...5.741
I3...8.798 (mph@I3) 81.707
I4...11.315
E.T...13.547 @ 103.87mph
Then we changed the rev. limit to 6400 rpm.
Reaction...0.345
I1...2.197
I2...5.870
I3...8.824 (mph@I3) 85.026
I4...11.206
E.T...13.352 @108.453 mph
My best run of the night was my 4th run;
Reaction...1.136
I1...2.242
I2...5.883
I3...8.775 (mph@I3) 85.540
I4...11.133
E.T...13.238 @109.34 mph

I could use some help interpeting what the signifigance of I1,I2 etc means ... but I think with a better driver(quicker reaction time, 0.0 being a perfect light) the coupe; even with the 600 cfm Holley; is capable of 12 second quarter miles.
A little help understanding the time slips would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks to Bruce and Matt V.

Manny, not interested this time for Wed night drags, but I am interested in your carb guy. Been having back fire problems.

Bob
I am going tomorrow afternoon, I will post after my trip to Wittman. I still don't know if the car will pass tech, but I will post about that too.

Manny...

Reaction time does not enter the equation. The first number is your 60 foot times. It looks like there is some tire spinning going on.

Your last run you lost time in the 60 foot. Had you gotten that down under 2.00 you would have been in the 12's. It takes much practice to come out of the hole with as little tire spin as possible.

Your 330 foot time in the first slip was your best. I think you hit the shift point better and shifted faster with less 1st to 2nd tire spin.

Your 1/8 mile looks consistant.

I'm sure Karl will chime in to let you know if I'm right or not.

Manny, your first 60 foot time of 2.00 was fantastic on street tires. Try to duplicate that start and everything else will fall into place.

Thanks guys. The tech was pretty generous letting me run but there a few items that need to be addressed before I attempt tech again.
The battery must have a strap using 3/8 bolts (because of front location). Foam cushion on Rollbar where the helmet might contact it and rear quarter windows.
If I attempt Firebird Raceway they will probably require outside door latches and I don't know if it is worth the trouble as I haven't seen an outside door latch(handle) that would look OK on the car. Any suggestions?

Manny, the NHRA rules are strictly enforced at Firebird.
The NHRA Rule Book is not published on-line. You have to buy it because it is changed year to year.

Here is a list of your most pertinent parts. I think Speedworld follows this list:
Except on their Wed street tire night.

MannyJoe, glad to hear that you're out thrashing your car. Whole lot more fun than just waxing it and looking at it in the garage.

The times indicated are:
I1 60'
I2 330'
I3 1/8th mile
I4 1000'

They are all interesting in determing how well you car is doing but the only thing that really counts is getting the big "W". Tires and suspension tend to be more important in running our little roller skates than who makes the most power. I know that I ran against cars with considerably more horse power and torque than I have but I put them in the weeds because I could put mine to the pavement. On the other hand, they would be on their second cup of coffee, waiting for me to catch up on a nice twisty-curvy stretch of mountain road. Life would be boring if we all liked the same things. Consider the grief I get for having a nasty Rat motor in my car, but you know, I can't hear that grief very well, when its coming from behind me at the strip.
