I use the top of an aquarium. Stainless steel screen with a plastic screen. fits tight and you can pull it out and clean the bugs and debris easily.

I also use the Nomex screen from Speedway. It comes in tan so I sprayed it with aluminium colored paint. Easily cut to size with HD scissors, installed with industrial Velcro. I did use heavy needle and thread to attach the Velcro to the screen since the hook and loop was stronger than the adhesive on the screen. Takes a minute to remove for cleaning. I did notice a 5° increase in running temperature, in our AZ heat. Well worth it for the peace of mind.

I’ve put a lot of miles on my Backdraft, on and off the track. The radiator opening is a crap-catcher, for sure, but I have yet to experience anything more than cosmetic damage. If it gets to the point that I can’t look at it anymore or suffer serious damage, I can replace that radiator over an afternoon and for a trivial expense. A lot less complicated and expensive than the radiators on my Porsche that are located behind gaping openings... I have screens to protect the radiators on that car.

FWIW, the best protective strategy for the Cobra radiator is to lead, not follow, any other cars
