Doug took a few pics. I don't have too many, as I was mostly busy keeping kids from either jumping up and down on my side pipes or smearing their ice cream on Scott's car. The Cobras got more than their share of attention, but since it wasn't really a "car crowd" some of it was a little scary.

I didn't taste the stuff on Scott's car, but the the ice cream (gelato, actually) I got with my ticket was very tasty!

We finally got to meet Al and admire his beautiful polished Kirkham. Bob made the drive all the way from Santa Rosa and arrived right on time. Greg made it to within pushing distance of Baji's parking lot before having to call AAA.

There was a Chinese restaurant right where we were parked, so most of us went in for dinner. By the time we came back out, it had cooled down and we had one of those perfect California evenings.

It was crazy hot until the sun went down!

Like Chuck said, a bunch wild children with no adult supervision were wandering the streets in Mountain View with melted gelatos all over their hands.

It was 62 in Santa Cruz when I got home at 10:00 pm, which never felt so good.

It was good seeing everyone and laughing/commiserating while we kept the crowd in order.

Great to see you guys at the Mountain View 'car show' ... it was the first 'hands on' car event I have ever been to ...

Doug, just after we pulled in.

The line-up.

Steve's 'Stang, which almost looks clean in this shot .

Al's Kirkham. Look closely and you can see the signatures of everyone who had a hand in putting the car together.

Deuce and a quarter

Bookends.

The best is when an ice-cream fingered kid is using your scorching hot side pipe as a step stool to see inside your cobra.

Hey All,

What a delight to have participated and to have had the opportunity to meet all! What a trip to see all the cars a Baji's, to drive down together and to have the machines on display! I really enjoyed all of it....really kind of got the juices going.

Dinner and conversation was terrific...and notwithstanding the children, etc., a great event.

What was REALLY cool? Leaving. All the Cobra's firing up their engines and departing together to the hoots and hollers of the crowd. Very, very cool.

Hope to see all soon!

If you look close in Doug's first 3 pictures it's the same kid in pictures, and there's dad dripping peach juice on the cars toooo. Well you know what they say the apple (or in this case peach) doesn't fall far from the tree.

Looks like a nice venue, I like the way the cars are in the middle of the street instead of along the curb.

Mike

Greg,

Thanks again for the Kirkham poster! I found a great place for it in the garage above my tool cabinet.

When I saw your post this afternoon, I thought "don't tell me Greg already replaced the head gasket!"

What do you mean no adult supervision! They were standing there while their kids ( and even them) were all over the cars. Stupid a$$es.
Didn't see the kid jumping on Chucks side pipes, but the icing on the cake for me was the guy pounding on Dougs fender. WTF, WTF, WTF. That pissed me off. I told him duh, it is fiber glass, you don't need to hit it. If it was Al's car, there would have been knuckle prints in the fender, then probably a knocked out a$$ hole on the ground.

It was great seeing everyone and bsing. Next time we will need to do it somewhere else. That will be the last f##king time I take my car to something like that!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw this on the back of an ice cream truck in England a while back. I think Scott's right, it wasn't just the children!

Oh well, we had a great time and it was great evening after the sun went down.

I just cleaned the car, and am happy to say that I escaped with only fingerprints and ice cream smudges - no nicks or scratches . Luckily, the kid bouncing on the sidepipe was a little spud, so no damage there either.

I didn't even get that much time to chat with our group because I was busy meeting so many interesting new people: the guy with the tats who was eyeballing my air filter while shooting furtive glances over his shoulder, the street person reaching into the car with a lit cigarette in his hand, the mother telling her child to "get on the car and I'll take your picture!"

No more city shows for me.

P.S. Al's right, it was fun roaring out of there with all the cheering!

It might be prudent to give this feedback to those who organized this show that Cobra attendence next time may be rather low due to the lack of "crowd control".

BTW, my post about the kid using the sidepipes as a step stool was intended to be a joke - I had no clue at all that this was reality.

And, I have up these types of shows years ago for these very reasons.

Doug,
I would of had it done but I bent one of the dowl pins for the heads getting it out and couldn't find one locally. A Summit item so can't put it together until next week. # 5 cylinder gasket went. It amazes me that these companies that build these Hi performance motors use great parts then put these piece of s**t gaskets in that aren't even supposed to be used!. Anyway I should be up and running next week. It sure would be great to visit with you guys one of these days. Glad you found a spot for your poster. Also, after all I'm hearing about the show, mabey this was a blessing in disguise.

Greg

Hi Randy,
No, it was the other side I didn't do. I knew I should of done it When I did the other one but I didn't. I called edelbrock and the guy told me that those gaskets should of never been used as there only good up to 10-1 compression and will deteriorate at the higher compression rates. I replaced with fel-pro copper wire with blue poly. These are great gaskets and he said I shouldn't have any more problems. It makes me mad that CHP uses these $10.00 gaskets instead of a $40.00 dollar one. "Cheap Bastards". Anyway I finished it all up today. I took my time and cleaned everything as I went. There were alot of hard to reach chrome areas that you can't get to when it's all assembled.
