A "chook"? Oh, sorry....Aussie language is a little different obviously.
In Australia / New Zealand / probably England too, a chook is a hen/chicken/fowl  ....so it's "why did the chook cross the road?"

edit: an "old chook" is slang for an older lady, and an "ol' geezer" is a bloke around Tom's age
