I stopped at a Ford Dealer today to look at the Parnelli Jones Saleen Mustang.
Now when this car was at the NY Auto Show last year, the projected price was low 50s. When it finally came to market, the MSRP was $58K and change.
This dealer wanted a $6K premium on top of that and said since it was the last day of the month, he could 'work that number a little bit'.
Anyone willing to pay these prices for a new car that has an unrealized value as a collectable is C-R-A-Z-Y.
I will never pay $50K+ for a Mustang, its just lunacy.

just my HFO, but these threads are beginning to get a little redundant and worn out.
Folks that don't wanna pay $ over MSRP, don't.
Folks that do, do.
what's the big ******* deal?
this is about the fifth thread dealing with the SAME issue.

is there not ANYTHING better to rattle on about??
*beat the dead horse syndrome
edit to add:
Gary- as I thought about it, i realize maybe you're thinking i'm talking to you about the thread- no, I'm not. I appreciate you posting info regarding the KR. thank you! it's all the 'extra' comments that come along to slam or negatively comment on choices that folks make.
thanks a lot for posting the info regarding the KR. I hadn't seen it yet.
Sounds like a lot of car!

I thought the weight of these cars was over 4,000lbs? Doesn't even makes sense to put all that power in the car when it weighs that much!!

Absolutely correct...the GT500 is almost 4000 lbs. The PJ Stang comes in at 3550. I think the PJ car is more of a collectable than the Shelby since only 500 are being made. Its a NA 302 making 400 HP with a forged bottem end has a fairly nimble suspension setup and brakes.

'buy it now' on ebay. $175K.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Shelb...QQcmdZViewItem
We can have a new, fun, easy to drive 'replica' (well sort of) for a fraction of the cost.
hmmm. Sounds like some other car a lot of us here on CC like.
ps. edit to add: I think the REAL '67 500 is killer!! I love it!

Johnny Mac- Which dealership did you see the PJ Saleen at? I was reading about that car last night- seems like it would be a nice little car. Wouldn't mind seeing one in person. But I agree re: the price, seems a bit steep. For not much more, I'd be inclined to get a Z06.

Chappy,
Sansone Ford in Ocean, NJ (Rt 35, just north of the Asbury circle) has one in the showroom. I spoke to Anthony G, the Shelby/Saleen rep. This is their second car. Overall its a very nice piece, would be a nice OT car. They were pushing it for $5995 over MSRP, but....since it was the last day of the month, he was willing to deal....but not that much....they were hoping to make a name for themselves and get a third car in.
I really like the execution of P Jones Trans Am car in this model. Both Saleen and Jones sign the dash too. Only thing that bothered me was the upper bolster on the drivers seat jammed between my shoulder blades, could be uncomfortable on long drives.
They also had a couple of low miles S281 Saleens there and some Roush 427R Stangs.
Re: Z06....yer on the mark! I may wait another year and pick up a used Z06. Hands down, best bang for the buck for a dual purpose driver/racer. They make average racers (like me!) look like a pro!
