Those door latches are subject to binding. I made a 1/4" aluminum backing plate to go behind mine to prevent the binding. Sometimes when the body works on the frame, the door opening can shift a bit. Try what Dan described. When you get it open, remove the cover screws and shoot some wd40 into the latch. That should provide enough lube to make it work.
