Removed an
oil pan once and found previous owner had rigged the
oil pump pickup screen. Instead of being .25" from the bottom of the pan it was 4" off the bottom!!!!! If he would have driven up a steep hill he would have starved the engine of
oil if he would have run low a quart of oil he would have ruined the engine. By the way the correct pickup tube was $9.95!!!!. The reason for removing the oil pan in the first place, there was no dip stick to check the oil level!! The hole in the timing cover needed to be drilled for the dipstick holder.
Most would not beleive what I saw the last time I removed an oil pan.
