Default FOR- GODS SAKES !!! PANAVIA's TOP TEN LIST!!!

OK, so for the however many-ith time in recent weeks I have bumped into a few things on a few customers cars in the last few weeks , -- that I cant believe.

Sooo-- in the spirit of David Letterman here is my Top 10 list for April /May 2010.

(Drum-roll)

10. not using sealant or washers on aluminum water-pump bolts, now there is a Niagara falls pattern down the front of the water-pump. (--seeep-drip,drip....)

9. Poor oil control / Oil soaked everything under the car.
(I mean everywhere -- I now look like Al Jolson )

8. Using 5/8" heater hose used as FUEL LINE clamped between a stainless steel tank ($$$$) and a sawed off 'AN' FITTING ( *what?!?!) that then went to braided stainless>!!

7. Wiring a 150A alternator to a 50 Amp gauge using 14GA charge wire (melt melt melt)

6. Installed headers at home in a 2008 5.4L SC car with STD SAE bolts. (I guess cross threading is now an Olympic sport )

5. Electric choke wired to the coil + positive. -- on an MSD 6AL system.

4. lead-acid batteries that leak on me..... ( drycells are easy to get - )

3. spark plug gaps that vary over 10% between 8 cyls. .045" ---.054" , . -- whats the diff -->?

2. OSH clear fish-tank tubing for *FUEL* line! ( argh )

And the number one --

1. 2009 GT500 *with* 28 degrees of initial timing and off the chart total timing and way too much boost. --

quote; ---"they tuned it by ear, -should be 750'- but -now its really hard to start, then it pings like hell when I get on it, it has oil everywhere" .....

-- And a Bonus track --

Guy bought a 428 car off ebay' that had STD pistons in a .030" over block......!

-- Thats a wrap- Steve

Funny (albeit sad). I have similar stuff in my line of work.

But just remember...thankusbetogod for the morons that keep us working.

Naaah.
No reason for a volunteer-free-self centered (Good thing), safety inspection for "custom" built cars! Now back to my corner.........
DV

PS... Thought I might add a little bit, Seat belts, seats, even even roll bars bolted into Fiberglass....

Guy had trouble with car running right. Traced grounds and found two that were fastened to screws that were screwed into the Fiberglass on a fender well.

Wipers wouldn't run. Had 12v wired to both sides of motor. He thought that it would go through the batter to ground. ?????

Removed an oil pan once and found previous owner had rigged the oil pump pickup screen. Instead of being .25" from the bottom of the pan it was 4" off the bottom!!!!! If he would have driven up a steep hill he would have starved the engine of oil if he would have run low a quart of oil he would have ruined the engine. By the way the correct pickup tube was $9.95!!!!. The reason for removing the oil pan in the first place, there was no dip stick to check the oil level!! The hole in the timing cover needed to be drilled for the dipstick holder.

Most would not beleive what I saw the last time I removed an oil pan.
