I have a 427 FE Side oiler and the smoking between shifts was due to bad valve seals. Also try using Valvoline 20-50 VR1 racing oil thjis might help. These engines have large tolerances and thin oils tend to make the smoking.

Thanks for the advise but i bought the motor from a dealer in the USA, it was almost $4000 cheaper, our aussie doller is very strong against the US dollar, if i bought it here i would have simply have sent it back to them and they would have got it repaired, ive got the car back now, its fixed i'm going to start a new thread on what the problem was.
