I didn't read what type of lifters you have, but your method is for hydraulic and not solid. And, like Dimis metioned, you need to give your engine way more gas from a chokeless carb. Also, if your lifters are hydraulic, it's a 1/2 turn and no more. If your engine has run before, and you feel the need to have to adjust the lifters more and more, you could have wiped cam lobes. Just throwing out some ideas.
