Question: For years I have been hearing different numbers on how much
oil goes in a SB ford motor with a external
oil cooler. Correct me if I am wrong, a SB 351 with a standard
oil pan holds 6 quarts of oil with a filter change, 5 without. Plus (or add) 1 quart with a external oil cooler up front like the ones most of us in Arizona run to cool the oil from the hot temps hear. I would like to clear this up. It make sense if 5 quarts stay in the pan 1 in the filter and one quart throughout the hoses and cooler itself oil changes should be 7 quarts. Racing pans are a different story, they tell you the pan holds a larger capacity of oil or not. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
