Fixed! Turns out it was two (simple) problems: the schematic had "L" & "P" reversed on the flasher unit itself, and the turn sw (VW) is not making good contact in the "left turn" position, which was the position I was using since I was working from the left side of the car. The turn sw is a whole story by itself, so I won't go there !
Blas: thanks for your offer, but not necessary now. The gauges I bought from you all seem to be working well , don't have the
oil temp hooked up yet, waiting for first
oil change to install sender.
